I would be surprised if that was the case - how the two systems function is pretty different imo.

Having not read patent it would pretty much need to be so broad as to encompass all fully alpine bindings also using tech fittings to tour - regardless of how they function. That is probably not the case.

Also, since Daniel Solman / Salomon SAS's patent is from late 2015 and BAM not only started their development prior to that, but also marketed the product prior to that, I would imagine BAM being able to claim prior art and get permission to use the patent (if they infringe on it) without paying any royalties (in essence not being able to license it to other users). That should be the case regardless of when Solly started their development if my understanding of the law is correct (it might not be).

I think the legal precedent for this is pretty clear if my understanding of the glorious litigation between Trek Bicycles and Dave Weagle over the Split Pivot/Active Braking Pivot is correct. Sure Amer could try to bury BAM through legal fees from defending their potential right to proceed to the market place, or the patent might not even be infringed. Who knows.

Any patent layers in the house wanting to chime in?

With a beefier cord and catch it seems like you could make a 1000-1300g boot that tours really well and punches above its weight, all while not having to resort to fucking snowboard buckles to shave grams
I'm trying to figure out what hardware I need/ want to use, but you can basically do this on the Atomic Backland Carbon and get it really close to 1000g flat if not under (with a heavier than stock liner).

Looks like one hell of a burly boot for 1300 g's. Didn't everyone on here rave about skiing their Vulcan's without the tongue?

Rumor has it this might be in the works for the 2019-20 Backland. Boa closure, no tongue. Looking forward to seeing pics.

    Thanks for the heads up.

If true, it gives me another reason to be very happy I got this year's Backland Carbon.

Would be interesting to see how they make it ski well without the tongue. + even working with BOA in a professional context I still am a bit apprehensive about having them on my boots (shoes I'm fine)

But BOA for the backland ultimate would be rad.

Maybe they could make a full rocker Mantra 112. Oh wait.

Yes but the Vulcan gets its stiffness from the spine of the boot. The walk mode is effectively a peg in a hole that limits both forward and rearward travel. The Dalbello system is just a latch that blocks rearward travel and the forward flex support came mostly from the tongue.

There's stiff flexing, and then there's just stiff without flex (brick wall).

Without the tongue, it wont ski like it has a tongue. I want a tongue. My hope is that it is pictured in walk mode.

What is the _deal_ with snowboard buckles invading? I hate that plastic shit. Are they insanely easy to use or what? To me they are more finicky, not less.

I'm also always wary of ratchet buckles. They're cheap, light, and companies can fool themselves into thinking people like the adjustment range, but eventually something will wear out and break. I guess it's less of a problem on ski boots than snowboard bindings as you're only ratcheting them once or twice a day, but there are plenty of ways to lighten up traditional buckles and buckle/cable systems that are far more durable than 99% crap-plastic ratchet buckles.

Not for nothing but uh... Where did the TGR Moment thread go? I've got a hole in my quiver and was using that thread to lose sleep.

I’d like to see a closer pic of tgat dalbello ski/tour lever. Maybe it has a knotch to stop it from flexing forward. Still hard to imagine it skiing as a 130 flex without a tongue at 1300g. I ski my Vulcan most times without a tongue but is neither 1300g or 130flex. On the hill or touring off the hill I have my tongues. Interested in that dalbello though if it skis like my lupo c ti. Great boot

I think you need to what PowTron did and start your own thread, regardless of whether the original one pops up again - that way you can control its fate and discourse a bit. At least that way it does not inadvertedly get deleted or some such.

I think most mags enjoy these threads alot due to their wealth of knowledge - I know I do.

Just talked to a rep. No tongue on the new Lupo Air, seems like the walkmode is like the Vulcan. There’s gonna be a 130 and 110 Air, new Lupo that’s made with more traditional plastics for the less weight conscious with more durability.

So in addition to the Lupo Air, is there still going to be original Lupo?

Obviously there are too many pros skiing the original Lupos to get rid of them.

At 1300g that’d be my daily touring boot in place of my vulcans . Lupo c ti would stay as hill/slack

So are we going to see no more carbon model?
