broken bike - name this bolt. rear shock related

Searching this forum as well as google still leaves me baffled as to what this piece is called. I broke the bolt that allows a specialized bike to be tuneable (69 or 70.5 degree head angle) geometry & adjustable travel (3.8" or 4.6") does anyone know what the hell specialized calls this breakable piece of shit bolt?

Measure the length, find out the thread pitch, and buy a replacement from a fastener store.

Also make sure to get the proper grade (strength) of bolt and not just one that matches the dimensions. They usually have markings on the top to denote the grade. I'm guessing a shock bolt undergoes a lot of stress.

When I need stuff like that I go to an automotive parts place that has hardware bins.

^^^^ What Eldo and cj said. Get the necessary bolt info from your LBS or Specialized.

    Use grade 12.9 hardware.

Try McMaster Carr for oddball hardware searches like this. Great company and an excellent source for mechanical parts.

For what it's worth, I continue to shear shock linkage bolts on my race bike (Cannondale Scalpel), despite following torque spec and directions. I keep a box of bolts on hand. I've gone through four bolts in two years.

    Yay, bike engineers!

Picked up a bolt last night that was the easy part. Removal of the sheared bolt was a bitch. I had to take most of the rear end of the bike apart. The bolt broke in the middle, removal of the threaded piece of bolt was basically inaccessible due to the shock and spacers being in the way. However using a vice (always fun when a project involves use of one) and some vice grips removal was a success.

Hmmm does anyone know is vice spelled vice or vise or both?

The tool can be spelled either "vise" or "vice." Vice can also means several other things.

    Some examples, in sentence form:

"Her weakness for carpet licking had become a dangerous vice."
"As the vice president's daughter she had to watch her every step."
"She feared being hauled away by the vice squad."

    See?
