I have a soft spot in my heart for this ski. My first ever fat skis were this generation Katana in a 183cm length. The 183's were on the short side for me but they were a tent sale deal and these skis rip for sure.
This year the Katanas had a little camber under foot and through the tail, and early rise rocker in the tip. After they've been skied a few days the camber gets skied out and they look dead flat. They have great pop out of the flat/cambered tails and they track well on edge like any generation of Katana, but this gen tracks better bases-flat at high speed compared to the later full-rocker version. The mount point is super traditional and far back (-12 from true center or something?) but the tails are nice and stiff and I don't think mounting forward is necessary.
The only downside of this generation is durability. The clear sidewalls and the powder channel are both more fragile than the later generations.
I have two pairs of Katanas in my quiver right now so I'll give the thread a bump and hope another ripper buys these classic crud busters.
