R.I.P. WILLIAM GOLDMAN (Princess Bride scribe)

Perhaps one of Hollywood's most solid screenwriters passed away today.
While best known as the author of the novel The Princess Bride and its subsequent screenplay, Goldman also penned such seminal screenplays as Harper, The Hot Rock, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid, All The President's Men, The Marathon Man (he also wrote the novel on which he based his screenplay), Misery, A Few Good Men, A Bridge Too Far, The Stepford Wives, and many other classics.

The thing I found interesting about him is that a large percentage of the screenplays he wrote were adaptations of other author's novels...

Also, oddly enough, there is a video clip linked in this article of Ted Cruz reciting the Princess Bride near flawlessly and it almost makes him likable for the briefest of moments.

According to my half-assed "research" on the Webz, it's all rumour and conjecture at this point.
I mean none of the stories even list a screenwriter, producer, or studio involved.

Okay, the original Variety piece, which spurred all the rumours, did mention Norman Lear, the producer of the original classic, but again it all seems like rumour and conjecture at this point...

Sadly, this is nothing new in Hollywood, a place that seems to become more and more devoid of original ideas as the years go by. I still shudder at mention of the horrible rumours of The Wild Bunch remake, a travesty-in-the-making that over the years has had a number of different screenwriters and directors attached to it (thankfully, this has yet to come to fruition, as I feel that is one helluva perfect movie its ownself...).
Then again as recent as a year ago folks were yammering about Mel Gibson spearheading The Wild Bunch remake: https://www.slashfilm.com/the-wild-bunch-remake/

And there's that other equally shitty rumour regarding The Rock remaking Big Trouble In Little China, too. Yet another near perfect movie that has no business being remade, imho.

In regards to The Princess Bride, I imagine it all depends on who owns the rights to Goldman's novel and whether or not he has any surviving family members in charge of his estate who would rather have the memory of the original stay intact instead of taking a sweet paycheck in exchange for the rights to a remake...
