Since there is so much chit chat about muzik today: What do you think about the Rolling Stone 500?
I wasn't expecting much, but found it wasn't as bad as I expected. I figure I have about 10% off the list, and there's another 20% that would go on my list.
Some other thoughts: Madonna - 4 albums? lame! As was 4 Beatles albums in the top ten (I like the Beatles, but not 4 out of 10).
But both Bitches Brew and Kind of Blue by Miles Davis? good choices. Should have been more Jazz, like Brubeck's Take 5 - one of the classic albums and one that influenced much music that came later
Only took a glance at the top 25 or so. Seems o.k. One objection I have is putting "greatest hits" type albums on the list. For example, I'd have no trouble putting Catch A Fire by the Wailers on the list rather than BM&W Legend.
Rolling Stone blows. We've been throught this before with the top 100 guitar players - pathetic. Fukkin Britney and Timberlake on this year's covers. krist.

True. I generally don't read it, even though they keep sending it to me for no apparent reason. I thumbed through this one expecting to be disgusted, but as I said, it wasn't as bad as I expected. Generally, RS sucks up to the current pop culture, but they assembled a reasonable electoral for this one.
Consider this: would you have expected Captain Beefheart, Otis Redding, Dusty Springfield or Robert Johnson to have made the top 100?
