Do the DH, slalom and Super D. If you do all three, I will too. AG propably is planning on all three again; I did DH and SuperD at the Deer Valley National and it was tough but fun. I want to see the Slalom course before I sign up but what the hell....
I heard that CS is going to come out and stomp the DH.![]()

Not me, I'm racing Snowmass NORBA, Telluride MSC then I gotta go eat sausage, cheese and drink beer in Milwaukee while Team Big Bear works their magic with Brianhead.
Get ready to hear a bunch of bitching at Brianhead. DHers are legendary complainers.
Have fun, I wish I could do it.

If CS is coming then I'd better not raceAltho since I'm now in the official Old Guy class, maybe he won't have to beat me up. Heh.
Craig, you're on! (that is, if you give me a loan to pay for all the races...yeesh)
When are you guys heading down? I've camped up towards Cedar Breaks before, it's super cool up there. Is there any camping right around the ski area?
Heh, I'm sure you didn't hear it from him. CS isn't the racer type, up or down.Originally Posted by Mr. Altagirl
I'll be (hopefully, as long as work lets meoff for the weekend) there, DH & Super-D at least. The AGs told me to try the slalom too, but I'd also like to see the course first too......prolly won't do that one though.

A little warning on the Super D at Brain Head: That place is HIGH (I think you start close to 11,000'). I did one two years ago about 2 hours before the DH and almost puked up a lung. If they use the same course, the first part is a good 5-8 minutes of full on sprinting at 100%. The time I did it, we had to go through a flock of goats and sheep that were shitting all over the place and the stench / fumes almost made me gage. At the bottom, I was discharging some form of deep lung phlegm tinted with goat shit; pretty sweet

My one and possibly only DH race is next weekend, at Downieville.
From my dirty hippy friends, I've heard there's tons of camping all over the place. Ana's ridden the 100 a ton, and she's got some good info about riding down there. Guess there are some super pretty rides for non-riders (ie: frizz, though apparently you may have to be concerned with falling off of stuff). Perhaps I'll join ya'll...Originally Posted by Particle
Yeah, the shuttle rides are awesome. There are three particular trails (Dark Hollow, Bunker Creek, and Blow Hard) that drop way down from the peaks and then you get picked up to go do another one. There is more than one DH run so even though there will be DH practice going on all the time, there is still fun stuff to ride. It will be a great weekend for sure.Originally Posted by jayfrizzo

I am so freaking amped for this trip. I've wanted to ride down there since I moved to Utah. Frizzle, I'm definitely in for escaping the races and doing a couple of the long shuttles to town...
What's the housing situation? Better to camp? Inexpensive motels? What are your (everyone's) plans for the race? (Work let me off, so I'm IN!)

We have a big condo across the street from the lifts. We still have a couple more beds if you want to stay with us. It'll be pretty cheap - it's reasonably priced to start with and sleeps about 10-12.Originally Posted by yentna

I would like to get in on that condo action, AG. Please hold a spot for the stumpster? I'm pumped about going down there, watching races, and doing some big shuttle rides.
I'd love to come, but I'm workin that weekend.![]()
I think I'm gonna wait 'til Labor Day, or even a non-race weekend to experience all that is Brian Head. With this being the replacement for the Big Bear NORBA race, she's-a-gonna-be-a-crowded.
Have fun and good luck peeps!
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.
If there's room, I'm in, and I think Ski Monkey might be coming. Let me know prices and whatnot. Thanks!Originally Posted by altagirl

No one camping??![]()
Heat in the day, hard sleeping spaces / lack of decent sleep with races the next day? I love to camp, but racing with a stiff neck or whatnot doesn't sound good.Originally Posted by Particle

OK so I might snag some floor space with the AG's after all. What's everyone's plan?
I'm not sure I'm going to race, since I don't have much of a Super D bike anymore. The only option would be to DH...but not sure I want to do that. Is anyone going who just wants to run some shuttles?? I'll be heading out around 1pm Friday...carpooling anyone?
We just got back, great practice this weekend. Weather was kinda rough for camping but we lucked out and didn't get rained on except late at night. The Dark Hollow trail (shuttle ride) is re-opened and AWESOME right now. 45 minute, mostly single-track, DH ride. Very nice. The DH courses are going to be pretty good. For the Sport riders, the Timberline course could be the most fun DH course this year. They have done an incredible job on making that run almost perfect. The Pro/Expert course if OK but a little too much emphasis on wide open speed and not as much techie stuff. Still good and WAY better than Snowmass, just not as fun to ride as Timberline. Looks like the dual slalom course could work out alright; they have already hauled in 30 loads of dirt as opposed to the two total they gave them at Deer Valley (LAME course). The SuperD will be on the normal course (Color Country); very fun and may be done on a freeride bike with no problems. The Lycra wearers will still do well but don't think you can't be competitive on a bigger bike. Just go faster on the downhill / flat sections...![]()

Oh, suck it up. You'll race stiff, sore and hungover, and you'll like it!Originally Posted by yentna
Hey AG, I read on the interweb that the Sport DH is on Wildflower. Is it different than what you just described? Just askin cuz I may make me DH debut this weekend and I'm gonna need someone to talk me out of it.
This is what I get for being all stoked and continually posting about how stoked I am for this weekend - I can't go![]()
Actually not all bad, I get to go see/hang out with my wife, which is cool. I'll just have to get down there another weekend, which probably isn't that bad a thing since every other weekend will be empty down there...
anyone wanna go back the next weekend?? Aug 12-14???
AG didn't get to ride last weekend but I rode both courses. According to the guys who work and build the trails up there, the Sports will be on timberline (better trail, more fun, less chance of year ending crashes), Expert/Pro on Wildflower. We all helped put Wildflower together a few years ago, there is one section that is pretty tough to go fast on and a crash will mean some consequences. I'll see both courses taped tomorrow and will try to post. We have noticed that they have the Beginners/Sports scheduled to go at the same time as Semi-pro qualifying on Sunday. Don't know how that could work as there has always been only one finish line. If you race Sport, you will love the course, all kinds of nice jumps, bermed turns, manmade stuff, etc...Originally Posted by boobookitty
Wildflower will be a lot more speed and tougher (supposedly).
