Thumbs up Google Earth - UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE

HOLYFUCKINGSHIT! So I downloaded this shit and am completely blown away by the technology. I feel like I'm in a UFO simulator, able to fly anywhere in the world.

Some of my places visited so far.....

    Chamonix from 10 miles up

This is fucking trippy- tilt the angle to see elevations.
Mont Blanc, Mer De Glace, Chamonix (9000 vertical feet)

    Waimea Bay

    THAAAAAANKS FOR CALLLLLING KIRKWOOD!
Cirque on the left, Wall on the right

The major metropolitan areas are cool, too. Zoom down to a big city like Chicago and tilt the camera flat. You can "drive" down the streets with the buildings alongside. Pretty sweet.

    I KNOW!

That thing is effing incredible. I can make out the trails on the tiny ski hill where I made my first turns. It's outta control.

    Wink

Since I work in the industry, well kinda, we use a lot of this stuff.

BUT, since we stalled the company internet with a bunch of us playing, we now are not allowed to use it, even for work purposes.

What a stupid policy and why can't we have a more powerful internet server, fuck.

No. At least some of the map data is shitty. Fitzroy for example.

Like most things computer-y, this technology is only going to get better: higher resolution sat data, integration of topographic and geographic map data, GPS unit integration (imagine Google Earth streamed to your GPS unit, or your GPS enabled phone) and then any and all of the Google Maps type hacks layered on top of that.

Geographic data modeling and display. So HOT right now!

Motion-Based will take your GPS data and export it to Google earth for a view of your workout (the reverse would be cool too!). Amazing what's available.

Didja hear Tanner Hall got hurt?

I can only use GoogleEarth at home. The work comps/connections are too slow.

All of what you said (except the hi-res imagery) is in Google Earth. And it's hackable.
    It's idomatic, beatch.
