^that looks like heli ski terrain off a chairlift... stoke meter pegged.

Sun and corn or thin layer of pow with sun and stable avalanche conditions are what I hope for... would love to be able to get on some big terrain.

Soft snow and stable conditions are all I ask. That terrain on a corn cycle would be dope!

Part of the reason I'm going midMarch this year is that all the other years I've gone in January and it's full on howlfest with the Gemsstock closed some days.

moar, long vid, good survey of terrain and locales:

It's called the alps. If we have snow, there is no reason to go anywhere.
Andermatt is usually pretty stable, because everything gets tracked after a storm. If there is a decent base and REALLY stable conditions, there are some pretty insane lines down to the gotthard pass road from the chastel horn with a 200m skin. I've never done those because they need a really fat snowpack and really stable conditions. You dont want to trigger anything there.

same goes for the oberalpstock. But these days peope ski the oberalpstock in avi level 3 which is spooky, to say the least.

Interesting. When I add Ski routes to the map, a bunch show up from the Gemsstock, but nothing from the Chastelhorn. Must be new and rowdy.

Can people see this: https://wepowder.com/en/route/55002 ?
The way up there is from a rib that comes down into the Felsental. Another a little further along called the Blaetzengrat.

The Blauberg is another rowdy line coming down from the other side of the Guspis.

sorry, those pages used to be free.
anyway, I know how to get there with a 45 minute skin.

To be clear, I have not skied the Chastelhorn, only skied back into the Felsental.

    Like this:

And the only way I've done the Guspis is the usual turkey route through the Gefallenlucke.

The ski routes are more of the classic ones, "Freeride-Terrain" for folks like sublte-p is not included and also not all tours are there.

good Buster brought up the wepowder.com. It is true you need a login now but I might do a screenshot for you soon.

This screenshot shows the Castelhorn chute going down into the Guspis. It also shades most of the sidecountry routes off the Gemsstock.

The L shaped red one going to the right off the summit is the Giraffe.
The blue one to the left of the Gemsstock tram is the Felsental.
The long blue curving one further left ending in Hospental is the Guspis.

These are the main sidecountry zones off the Gemsstock.

These are the Disentis sidecountry runs.
The red ones on the left side are the couloirs off the Gendusas into Val Strem
The upper blue ones to the right of the upper t-bar are called Val Gronda, the middle is Val Pintga and the lower blue ones on the right are called Magriel, which are treed.

The Oberalpsstock summit is marked and there's variations of the run going down that North side.

The Giraffe ends at the east (right) side of Andermatt?

    yup.
It ends in a streambed that requires a long skate and pole underneath a SW facing slope under the Rossbodenstock. Not really where one wants to be on a warm, sunny afternoon.

Ha! Adjustable poles for the win, and skate fast, and one at a time.
1,500 meters vertical? How many miles or km? Looks like a gem.
What elevation is treeline? 2,000 meters? Does this look right?

It's a long way, takes time. There is a sneaky traverse that cuts skier left, but that misses the spicy exit couloir.

1450 meters or so vertical I think not counting the traverse to get there.

I think treeline is below 2000, I'd say more like 1700. But it kind of depends on how one defines treeline since there are scrub trees and bushes starting at about 2000.

Fantastic. Big mountains with multiple skiable aspects give you options.
For me, treeline begins where the snow and visibility are better on a windy day. Scrub brush doesn't count. YMMV.
So this place looks really exposed. Must be epic in clear conditions.

Well I would not call it classic "freeride terrain" it's rather steep and committing big mountain stuff, that is why I never went there. I'm usually pretty mellow. Anything I can I die on or you have to wait for months for is usually too much of an ordeal for me. Although I wish I had done the IL madone last year when I was there in perfect conditions and it had tracks.... - - >pic

And yes the "ski routes" are usually pretty mellow alpine club things. The helvetic back country atlas has a few "more interesting" lines, but anything that needs certain conditions or has real exposure is usually not a standard alpine club route., which are in the Geo admin tool. Wonder if anyone making the trip will be able to create a small database or map collection of the lines you take.

More youtube digging for Disentis Stoke

    With authentic yodel track.

It looks like there are things for the youth to jump off.

Marketing video from the ski area, gives a good perspective on terrain and scale.

Pretty good meadow skip POV, skiing starts at 1:115

Timelapse of the lift rides at Disentis. Lots of good looks at terrain. This place is huge.

    One for Gemsstock:

Sweet "little" couloir, looks like it's right off the lift.
