    Cradle to Cradle

I read about this book and concept recently and I am planning to buy the book next time I hit the bookshop. The idea is up-cycling rather than recycling - making things in a way thhat they can continue in their current form or improve rather than deteriorate down their life cycle. Paper, for example, now goes from copy machine to newsprint to cardboard to mulch - upcycling would design the fibers to remain intact or improve in value as it was re-used. That's how I understand it.
    Anybody read about this yet?

The PDX library has a copy of the book (perpetually out, but can be reserved).

It's a very cool concept, don't know if it's quite ready for primetime. As an example: the book is printed on "treeless" paper that can be wiped clean and reprinted, not recycled, but the ink they used smudges with handoils/sweat

Interesting article on the BBC today about Mcdonough:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4682011.stm

"Mr McDonough's ideas for the Next City are about to be played out in China where his company has been charged with building seven entirely new cities.

His book has been adopted as government policy in China,"
