Restoring a C3/C4 vette is cheap. Pull all the plastic off, add a turbo, et voila. Vette cart.

this thread is interesting to me.
I have an interesting Euro/greymarket BMW that I want to unload. It's low miles, but needs some love mechanically. BAT has been doing pretty well with these, like $15k for a decent one.
My question is: should I spend the dough ($2000-$5000) to get it well sorted before submitting or just throw it out there? Is it worth it? GAH. been fighting with myself over this for a while.
Put it on BAT with a reserve. See what happens.
BAT screens cars so I would think it needs to be desirable enough or cheap enough to make it on with issues.
When do we get a crack at buying your Saab??

Meh, I don't care if it goes 200 mph and handles line a F1 chassis.. If there are 4 doors, it's just a fast grocery getter/kid bus/soccer mom ride.
I'll take just about any 2 door sports car over the sickest 4 door ride for "sporty". Full disclosure, I'm driving a Forester wagon ATM and all our other cars are 4 doors. But, when the nest empties my daily driver will be 2 doors or GTFO.
To me, 4 doors will always be a compromise, not a legit "cool" sports car regardless of the performance it delivers..

^^^, well, you're clearly not the buyer for it. And I'm not either, hence the desire to sell. There does seem to be a growing market for these, though it was very soft until recently.
It was built for the Autobahn, probably for people with drivers given the audio controls in the rear armrest. It's a tank for sure.
What's the history on it, oft?
My ex FIL gave it to me years ago after taking it to trade in on a Prius and being offered pennies. He did a euro delivery on it on a family trip in '85, shipped it back and had it federalized. Put it in his garage and drove it very little. I've maybe put 2000 miles on it.
In order to get top dollar for the car, the work needs to be done.

Brain dead and made of money.
My uncle had an early 80s 450SL he let me borrow for the day when I was 16. Now there's a 2 door sports car I could definitely embrace as my empty net daily driver..
