I find it ends up being more about communication issues than thievery
then add in the extra complexity of shipping batteries as someone asks above
my husband was working with an intl drone company and getting the batteries was always a PITA- they cd only be picked up at the actual DHL facility or some added complication
so take that into account if you are buying for like, someone's birthday and you need it within a typical expectation of time......

Ideally, you should get batteries sourced from Japanese or Korean companies, i.e. Samsung, LG or Panasonic. Chinese sourced batteries are a lot less expensive, but probably less reliable, though I don't know to what extent.

unitpackpower has been pretty reliable for me and others, and have a pretty good reputation among the ebike builder community. They also have an ebay site, if you prefer.

Actually, when you buy batteries in China, they ask you if you want Japanese or Chinese cells. Then they assemble them.

The cheap ones typically cut corners. Either with the charger or the cells themselves. That has potentail for failure or worse yet, fire.

Yeah, that's the current party line, and likely true. My point is that we don't know to what extent the potential is for failure or catastrophic failure/fire hazard, especially since there's probably heterogeneity between the types of Li-ion batteries being used. I suspect that more "reputable" end-sellers like UPP at least try to use more reputable batteries whether they source from Japan/Korea or China.

Just ordered a 500w mid-drive and 48v 12.8ah battery. Stoked to convert my commuter for winter ugly riding.

    Got my haibike nduro 10.0.

Unbelievable. Downhill is so much more fun since I'm not tired at the top.

My normal 3 h ride took 2 1/2, with 30 percent less calories expended.

This is the volkl katana if mountain bikes.

180 mm travel front and rear.

I have to say, i was worried that the 53 lbs haibike would be cumbersome, but i found it quite maneuverable, didn't feel the weight on the down,. Except it seems to accelerate like crazy.

I saw a dude probably in his mid-70's yesterday... on Dakota Ridge... on a regular old pedal-bike.

I was with my mid-30's doctor friend... on his e-bike.

    You go, old dude!

Something tells me that your riding style would not be described as 'poppy and playful'.

True, i prefer to stay on the ground and plow thru everything, rocks, etc. Though i also like to get air off rocks and small features.

A "fucking entitled millennials" comment from the old guy would have been appropriate.

    Probably.

We give him enough shit that he probably doesn't need to get it from strangers.

He *is* really hoping that JeffCo Open Space keeps the Class-1 allowed rule after Dec. 31st... otherwise he'll have fuck-all places to ride it.

Game , set, match. Well played industry! So stoked. International acceptance with e bike World Cup/world championship held in conjunction with wc xc/dh.
Has to help trail access, lighter bikes. Can’t wait. Raddest viewing of any mtb race ever!! 20mph on the flats in packs, passing in the air, pinned from start to finish, major workout, no time to rest or even drink. On the e powah. Love watching wc dh put this will be non estop action. Next level course design coming up!!!

Bike Hater: I hate mountain bikes SO MUCH! Now they even have fucking motorized ones! Oh, they're racing the motorized ones now? Well, never mind then. Mountain bikes are sooo great!

Yeah, asinine. Most of the really militant bike haters would find a way to ban trail running if they could. They hate anything and anyone that moves faster than walking pace.

I think he means trail access for e-bikes... not bikes in general.
