If they actually built that, cool as fuck. But if it was built by MTB-r’s, that’s lame as fuck.

I think youd need some serious roids to pull those gaps on a mtb but maybe wheaties has a new cereal out

So would there be less or more torque on an ebike hub? First thought was more, but it may be less. Power assist may be smoother.
My dt370 almost smoked on the first ride. Made a hell of a noise. My bud smoked his within 2 weeks. I've never heard one good thing about them. SC stepped up immediately and gave me dt350 when I bitched. A Reserve with that hub is a travesty.

I might be mistaken. I remember now that they tweaked their ebike hubs to be stronger. Same 370 design with a few burlier parts(thicker axle, steel freehub, etc). Emtb definitely adds some tourque. 2-4x as much. 350 should be good. Ive liked dt swiss for the most part. Rims have been great as well

I thought when they came out with the EXP hubs a while back, the 370 got upgraded from dumpster tier to "not terrible", and can be upgraded to ratchet internals.

I've had no issues with a 350 on my Levo, even running 54t ratchets.

Yeah, I'm dated here. My 370 was a 2019. It's still pawls and obviously some pawl designs are better than others with their points of engagement. Amongst my friends, we've had a million failures with the stock pawl hubs with various brands, but I don't recall one ratchet failure.

I think I9 makes a bomber pawl hub.

They have a full selection of spare and maintenance replacement parts for all the Bafang motors, as well as everything from bare motors and displays to full conversion kits. They ship from China, but they actually know the products, and you'll get much better customer service out of them than from random Aliexpress sellers.

    Electric Bike Thread

Giant Ebikes letting me down right now.
Day two in Italy, got to the shuttle drop and one of our bikes wasn’t charged. My buddy runs the shop and plugged it/unplugged it himself. Broken charger. Modified our ride to eliminate 1500’ of climbing.
Day 5 in Italy and different bike motor stops working after 2000’ of a 5500’ climb. Our mountain guide friend pedaled the bike with battery removed and I rode his bike with battery in my pack.
Dropper post is shit. Every time I adjust lower post height, it fucks up the cable tension and no longer holds. Then, when riding my buddies bike (same day as above) his dropper lever breaks in two under thumb pressure mid-climb. Saddle also clocks around a quarter turn with moderate pressure. Getting used to just whacking it back into place.
Apparently the shop has had a number of dead motors and chargers this year. They get instant warranty service, which is great, but also says, “yea, we know”

Giant motors are just rebranded Yamaha motors, and the older Yamahas have always been really solid, so it's disappointing to hear that they're having problems with the latest generation.

It's even more disappointing that your vacation is getting messed up

God this is a long thread. Looking to buy a scrambler moto style ebike for my kids to share at college. Narrowed it down to a Super73, Ride1up Revv, or an Ariel Rider. Any thoughts or experience on any of those?

Haa idk much on that segment. I was looking at the new specialized one kind of similar. I cant remember the model name. Its their hub drive commuter. Powerful hub with a throttle option, lights , fenders and some nice looking racks and panniers from fjulraven. Seemed like a decent price and a known quantity for warrantee if need be

All those bikes are slow, heavy, unpedalable, useless crap. You'll get much more distance and longer battery life (not to mention fenders and a rack) out of commuter bikes like an Aventon Level.2, because you're not hauling around giant knobby tires...and you won't get a hernia trying to get it up the front steps into the house or someplace else it won't get instantly stolen on a college campus, either.

Of course, if the objective is to make a nuisance of yourself by riding through yards and parks drunk, then by all means get a fake motorcycle. But if you actually want to get from A to B, they're a poor choice.

^^^ agreed, except for the slow part. The point of something like the super73 is that they're easily modifiable to defeat the speed limitations. So if your goal is to be a douchebag with an unlicensed gray area dirt bike that'll do 70mph on a sidewalk, that's your ticket. The key to riding them is to be super defensive when people point out that you shouldn't be riding dirt bikes on bike paths. Bonus points if you mow down some children in the process.

Im torn between these 2. Racks, fenders, lights, front suspension, 28mph assist for commuting.
I like the idea of a bosch motor but the specialized is soo dialed. Security system, alarm, suspension post, great geo and a decent price.
Theyll both handle light trail riding, gravel, dirt paths

My brother has one of the turbo vados and that bike rips. He put a real fork, dropper, wheels, and tires on it, and uses it for 50/50 around town/light mtb trail usage.

this is the 1st time I have heard the term " scrambler moto style ebike "

even real E-bikes are heavy but according to the specs these are really heavy, depending on if john law wants to fuck with you they may or may not be legal where you want to use them, , you may or may not be able to find parts if shit fucks up, which is likely cuz they are made out of chinesium, make sure the batteries are UL rated so you don't burn down the Dorm

    Electric Bike Thread

First, to be clear, the only reason these are “bikes” is so they don’t have to be registered (pedals = no registration.). We bike all the time. Both my kids are fast as shit on bikes. This isn’t to replace their campus fixies, which they have. This is to whip around the 5 miles closest to school to get to friends house, get groceries, go to Costco, classes that would otherwise be a 25 minute walk up a steep hill, often with a passenger (hence the need for a banana seat) and essentially be an electric, portable moped.

They are 960 watts. (73 LBs or so). So if you pedal and add another 250 watts up a hill it helps. Pedaling on flats helps battery life.

But yeah, it’s not really a bike. But I didn’t know where else to post it.

We ended up getting a used Super73 with little use. We shall see. It was cheap. They are a California company that has had some issues early in their history and has hopefully smoothed things out. My son has a good friend that uses his all the time and loves it.

Seems like a pretty decent campus vehicle. Guess I’ll find out quick.

    well you did ask,

Shop bro told me they don't sell those bikes with throttles made out of chinesium cuz they are not legal at least in Canada but you can order on Amazon and it will be at yer door in 2 weeks

so there are always articals about people getting 600$ worth of tickets for illegal " e-bikes" so these may or may not be legal and just hanging pedals on an illegal electric scooter that has no registration/ no way to be insured could be a probelm if johny law decoides he wants to save the world from you

750 watts is the maximum in the 35 states that follow the mostly-standard Class 1/2/3 distinctions, and in several of the other states.
    https://www.aventon.com/blogs/avento...ltimate-guide#

Anything over 750W, like the Super73, is legally a moped/motor scooter in those states (and many of the remainder), and you run the risk of being cited for riding it without plates, registration, or a helmet, and for riding it anywhere but the road. This is very poorly enforced -- but it's a possibility you have to take into account when buying one. (Note that unscrupulous online sellers will sometimes call this "Class 4", which does not exist.)

If you're in KS, MN, NC, OR, VT, or VA, you're in luck, as the limit is 1000W. However, the speed limit is generally still either 20 or 25 MPH for power assist.

IMO the mini-bike-with-pedals style itself would be a red flag for johnny law to pull this fucking kid over and see how many tickets we can write him

while an actualy pedal assist only bicycle probably not at all ... cuz its legal

isnt the class 1 pedelec standard 19 mph (32kph) ?

This reminds me of a buddy who built up an old DH bike with a double crown fork, dd maxxis tires and a chinese gas engine. He'd come screaming onto campus and kill the engine just as he hit the sidewalk. You could roll down steps, up steps, all over the place. It was the early 2000's version of your Super73 and he got chased by the security golf cart on more than one occasion. I do think he was able to all-terrain himself out of a ticket every time.
