I was thinking more YT/Specialized/Giant. Those are what most people are on in my local area. Either way, your point is understood, these things are expensive.

Thats all the garden variety mid level stuff, I don't know any self respecting dentist who would buy one of those ^^^ and expect to impress another dentist ?

cuz they all know they need to buy the SC/ Ibis/ Yeti acoustic bikes to at least hit that upper level

and the E versions are where the discerning dentist shows whom is really making the bank this year

I gotta DVO and set it up with a single offset bushing from new, never rode it as a full 29er. Was contemplating the DHX2 but it was last summer and there were none available so I just got what I could find. I was told in order to run the longer shock, it had to be mulleted or the bigger wheel would hit with the increased travel.
I was also just gonna go 160 up front but when I asked the guys at the LBS about a longer air shaft for the stock 150 fork, they told me it would fit a 170 if I wanted. So I went bigger. At times it feels a bit chopperish but I like the squish.

Overall I'm pretty stoked on the bike. I joke it's my underpowered ebike but that's mostly because my girl's on her 2nd E and she and some of our friends all ride their Levos in full turbo all the time. They did a big 40 mile point to point ride last fall and even brought spare batteries. I'd love to join 'em this fall and have been considering the Range Extender but hard for me to justify the cost for just 1 or 2 rides a year. Do you use yours much? I asked the guys at the Sports Hub last week if they had one for rent but they just offered to sell me one. If only I knew someone who had one.....

Ha - do I know you? I got mine at the Hub too. Those are my people....because I spend all my money there haha.

I understand that when you run a 27.5" wheel, you get less speed out of the motor, because it is tuned to max out at 20 mph on 29" wheel. So, unless you jail break it, your max pedal-assist speed is a bit lower. I'm sure it also affects torque throughout the assist range, but not sure how it works exactly.

I'd be happy to rent/loan out my Range Extender. Just leave me your girlfriend while you use my battery!

So I did the very recent firmware up grade on the EP8 going from 4.1.8 to 4.1.9

the bluetooth kept dropping so there a lot of wanking about but I eventualy got it updated and put the motor thru its paces at the area today

It could be my imagination but the motor seems a little quieter/ smoother,

no other difference in performance as far as I can tell

Looks like thats the way things are going. All the companies sedm happy with their motors and are concentrating on tweaks to the software. Bosch with their smart system has introduced a bunch of cool features. Shimano is working with the yeti enduroE team on some features the racers would like to see. Still stokdd on my e8000 bike but the new stuff will be irresistable

well its not just an electric motor its a fucking computer eh,

if you disagree look at E-tube and note that you have one piece of firmware for each piece of HW

so there are 5 bits of HW in the EP8 product with firmware but really the only thing that is really gona fack op is the motor

back in the day I asked a guy at work wtf firmware was and he told me it was software on the hardware which never really made a lot of sense

Well i wont diagree because i have no idea. Companies sill maje up a fancy nsme and itll do eonderous things and ill want to have it. Ill push the button they tell me too push and then ill smash my bike to bits, and sometimes my self. Just like every other advancement only better

I’m not a huge fan of Rad, but that’s pretty cheap.

One of my friends that owns an LBS,
had a customer come in, that wanted to upgrade the brakes on a Radwagon.

They contacted RAD and their response was “ you touch the brakes, the warranty is void and we’ll sue you”.

Been a radrunner commuter/child/gear hauler for a year and a half now. Put thousands of NYC miles on the thing in that time and it holds up well, except the brakes really do suck. Constantly need tightening/adjusting.
Looking for an upgrade with hydraulic brakes, full suspension and longer range. Most other moped style fat tire bikes have lower seats, which is a bummer for pedaling. Even at 5’9” the Ariel Ryder frame is too short feeling.
Anyone ride the Pedal Electric Core?

Fully agree the rad bikes should have better brakes.

I’ve had the bike a year and put 1200 miles on the snow. It’s held up well.
The Kenda Juggernaut’s suck and need to be replaced immediately. The rubbers too hard and they’re scary on ice. I replace them with studded 45North Wrathchilds, which are really good on ice and snow.
The Bafang motor is heavy and not as efficient as some the major manufacturers newest models. I’d also prefer a removable battery.
Norco’s newest Bigfoot is really nicely specked, but they’re impossible to get.

Fat bikes lend themselves well to electrification and I really like riding in the snow.

100% agree about the Kenda J tires. The bead was so tight on mine that after hours of trying to get them off i ended up cutting them off.
