True and not really much different than anywhere where people have disposable income, y’know, like many resort/ski towns.

At least most people are courteous about wearing masks on the trails when encountering others. Those rules generally get followed IME.

Fuck man, just trying to get out and get some exercise in a beautiful place.

I guess they grow on you, top tube or downtube? I like the look of the niners. Maybe its the generous standover on that mullet 180 bike. I like everything about that bike. I havent researched the price or even know if those guys are online sales or are they lbs bikes?

Top tube has a big kink in it, looks like all their mountain bikes do. Doesn't send me, the only bike from them I don't find ugly is the steel gravel bike.

Oh right. A bit of the haibike look alrgough theyve gotten better or maybe thats grown on me too. I do like the geo , spec and the bosch gen4 on the niner. Im not real up to date on niner as a company but i thought it would fit me well so ill be looking intio it more.
Id really like to get the nicolai. Customize the geo a bit here and there for my measurements and it can also be 2 bikes in one with a shock/linkage swap. Rumour that theyll have an internal drivetrain for it soon too

The only thing I know about Niner is they went bankrupt in the recent past and then rose from the ashes with new ownership. And they've always made 29rs

    Lemme axe you sumthin:

Now that things are starting to shake out and everyone has an e-bike, what should one look for?

    1. Price - I'm not getting a Pivot b/c it's ugly (that's what I tell myself when I can't afford something (but it really is ugly). Is there a price point where you say: that's just garbage? I guess I'd be looking at Commencal/YT/Canyon...direct type stuff.

    2. Motor - do I care? I'd be using as a training compliment to regular bike.

    3. Kinematics - with a motor...does it matter as much?

    4. Suspension - similar to #3, but my optimal bike is 120f/~110R. I'd think I'd go UP with an ebike...maybe 150/140?

    5. Frame material/weight - YT and Canyon are carbon...Commencal isn't. The Commencal is 54# <yikes> and the Canyon is ~47...with e-assist...does it matter?

Or should I just do what I usually do and buy the one that looks the best...in red?
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

    Electric Bike Thread

    I would focus on:
    1. Warranty support
    2. Price
    3. Brakes
    4. Suspension
Weight doesn’t matter unless you get the Levo SL.
    Carbon looks nicer. That’s all.
    Drivetrain doesn’t matter.
Wheels should be heavy and not made by E13.
Don’t obsess over motor/battery. They’re all good. If you want the most quiet and natural feeling moror, you’re stuck with Special Ed. We all know that’s more of a personal philosophical dilemma.

Ooof, I’d been waiting for that Pivot EP8 upgrade but only XTR build announced ... too rich for my wife to stomach me spending that much.

Probably it’s due to parts shortages? But also might as well start with your higher margin position in a supply limited environment as both supply and demand are totally inelastic right now (even if you gave Shimano more money they probably can’t produce any more/faster, and people are buying inventory at basically any selling price right now).

I’m digging the 3 battery capacity choices, seems like 635 Wh is the sweet spot for half-day enduro style rides where you’ve got long grinder climbs and steep DH? With the motor weight being roughly equivalent to battery weight ... I wonder what the actual net weight difference is between each of the 3 batteries and if it’s noticeable in the handling of the bike, say descending in Eco ...

So I guess my options are to tell my local shop to let me know the day that Pivot XT builds are orderable ...

Or just go with a YT Decoy CF Pro when they get the EP8 because they’ll be sure to have an XT/SLX build and by then they also might be around 600 Wh ...

Just received my new YT Decoy Shred.

Can say nothing bad about it now. I wish it had more fox and xt, but that will come eventually. They run a little small, so their XL is really close to my Ripmo AF in large.

I think that Huffy is the parent company. I don't remember the details but they're pretty well funded and doing pretty good work. I screwed up last fall and turned down the multi line rep gig with them and of course this year they sold out of everything and I would have made pretty good money. Ahh well...

Looks like a Honda Mintrail 70 fucked a Huffy.

First and foremost ... Sound. Get a quiet one. You want to hear nature, not your motor while you blow past doped up spandex clad evangelical mountainbikalists.

This also solves a very important existential question:

If no one hears an ebike in the forest, is it really there?

Greyp = about as silent as it gets. The motor is waterproof too.

    Connectivity is a thing https://www.bike-eu.com/home/artikel...541.1608379677

I've had the demo bike for a while now and haven't paired it with my phone though. It only works with the phone as a hotspot not through bluetooth (yet) and I can't use my phone as a hotspot because AT&T won't allow it unless you're on autopay and we're not. The bike is a freaking hoot to ride and since I've never had those new features I don't miss them but it has missed two OTA updates.

Marin Muni Water District deferred decision on whether to allow ebikes for a trial period.

Meanwhile, see a bunch people out there riding them.
