Djongo's buddy and I took the alternate line

The next day they rolled back to JH and SVS and I went for another ski day. Rolled up to the gate as they opened it for skiers only again.

Hiked out for two laps but we paid for it coming across the cornice debris to get back to the poma.




Watched some pros send the cornice, then they closed the ropeline so we couldn't go out anymore.

Winter skiing in the Beartooths mostly originates from Cooke, but a few come in from the Red Lodge side.

Beau is a good dude... a true mountain hermit, lol. I've skied a couple of the cascade volcanoes with him. He has a pretty amazing depth of knowledge of BC skiing in the greater yellowstone.

I'd suggest just booking one of the huts near Cooke with a batch of friends. Look at maps, explore and figure it out.

Last day for the Basin wish i was there hopefully someone got the goods.

i did make it for the last day, sunday. i was 50/50 saturday morning when i left for work but did load the car to head out directly after work. by the end of the day i had convinced myself that even though its a long drive for one day of skiing it'll be worth it. and hell yeah it was!

what an awesome collection of great folks getting some summer turns in there, such camaraderie and stoke - truly a magical place that just puts a huge grin on everyone's face

the day started out a lil cloudy but things softened up nicely and right after lunch (about 1:15 or so) they shut down due to lightning. half an hour later after a half dozen incredible lightning blasts and huge thunder claps the sun came out and the lifts spun up, best afternoon i've had skiing in a while. so much fun!

everything people have said about beartooth basin in this thread is true, the pictures don't do this place justice and i can't emphasize the stoke enough, this place is fantastic. if anyone is on the fence for next summer make your plans now, block off as much time as you can to enjoy this experience, it's well worth it

Word up Biotches, What time is it?

Beartooth Pass time! - Skiing at the lift served Basin is scheduled to be on time for opening this summer of '20.
The usual opening date is Memorial day weekend. I would take that with a huge grain of salt, considering how many peeps aren't working. Like rotary plow drivers...I'd do it. How sketchballs would that be? Dang.

Setting one weekend for a shindig is next to impossible in a predictable year.
We're gonna play it by ear and roll the bones. If/when you gots a plan for yoself, post up in here and let the gelling begin. Mags may just adapt and get out there witcha.

Time and finances are all over the place for most of us so the random weekend or midweek dawn patrol may be all we can manage. I've left JH at 5 am and been sliding down Gardiner HW by 9:30.

My money is on a fuckton of snow this year and frankly, the later, the better. For settling and sliding, I mean.

Also, the snowpack up at Beartooth lake is at 81" today. Almost a foot more than last year this time and another foot is predicted for this week.
I bet the summit snow cuts on the roadside will be over 20 feet deep to start...

Hell yeah! Was stoked to see they are planning on opening for the summer.

There are many factors in play for me but I am planning to make a trip. I have a decent bit of free time to play with so I likely won't nail down dates for a bit.

I may tack it on to a yellerstone trip with the wife but that depends on a lot right now. We'll see what happens!

Im planning a trip for the solstice and more than likely another trip for earlier as in after its been confirmed that they're open vs when they say they will be open.
Super stoked for this no place id rather be as the days grow longer then at 11,000 ft with several other like minded child like adults on skis

At this point even if lifts don’t spin at the Basin, some turns on Gardner or Rock Creek would be all-time.

Anyone have updates on the plans to begin plowing.

Excellent, this is good news.

Very cool to have video of road clearing. The old rumor mill for opening dates was a tedious way to make plans.

Last year I drove all the way to Canyon Jct., before getting shut down at Dunraven pass.
I'll try and get that shit dialed tighter this year.

Methinks DaveVZ and family will be coming too. He skied more high risk Granite laps than most peeps last season, gonna be some sick storytelling.

The pass opens on memorial day fairly faithfully. Occasionally heavy weather or some NPS issues may delay access via the south - Yellowstone/Cooke city.
The lift is kinda hit or miss because of a myriad of potential issues. Not sure of their schedule, prolly not set in stone...stay open until the paying crowd stops or the conditions are shot.

The skiing is always there. It's not always lift accessed or even good skiing.

Less busy on weekdays fo sho. As summer rolls in, lots of flatland recreators camp down in the canyon on weekends. Way more skiing, than skiers. And any crowd of skiers up there becomes an impromptu party. Contrarily, isolation surrounds you.

It's a pretty amazing spot, regardless of the conditions.

I'm pushing ahead with planning for the summer solstice weekend. Who else is planning on attending? I'll likely be rolling solo from SLC, probably camp out of my truck.
