    nsr-Dennis...

comin in hot'n heavy... weather channel guy Cantore is pumped up with anticipation like we get on powder mornings. Be safe southland mags, looks like it missed warthogs area but the right side is the worst for the squall lines... is Max still around? Landfall looks east of him but who knows. I lived down there last year and Charley f'd us up- watching from the safety of the upper midwest is much better than sitting on the gulf in a singlewide trailer.
Hope the loss of life is minimal and the quick start to the season evens out over time...

5 hurricanes strikes in a year? It's confirmed -- god hates Florida.

Here's a novel idea, Floridians... Build sturdier homes, and if you live on the beach, build 'em on stilts.

while I lived down on Pine Island I helped a guy build this stilt house in Matlacha- which survived Charley....

built on thirty-some treated 10x10s driven 18 feet into the ground. The far half here has been closed in for the garage. Living space started about nine feet above grade. All wood construction (which is rare) consisted of bolting LVLs to the pilings and strapping everything (every stud almost) to the previous level. We put so many 16d nails through the array of straps it was ridiculous. (palm nailers are the shiz...)
And tippster, the guy I worked for would always say that thing your siggie says

Yeah, my brother and his new wife are in Jamaica right now for their honeymoon. They had to wait in Miami for 2 extra days before flying out to Negril. I know they're fine now, but I was checking the noaa hurricane site like every hour last week! I hear another one is coming in, though.....
