One of my all time favorite time wasters is Marine Traffic. Find any vessel by name and see where it is in real time.

I still call it The Jake.
Looks like they are still off the coast of Greece- can't read it though- it's all Greek to me.
Zoom out on that map- holy shit that's a lot of ships
Pretty cool, isn't it?
We were boating around Charleston Harbor the other weekend and there was this massive 300' megayacht anchored off Ft. Sumter so we pulled up marinetraffic to see what was up with it. Turns out it was J.K. Rowling's yacht and she was there doing some sightseeing.

That is pretty cool, but the next time I am in Key West, my wife will be pissed because I will be geeking out on my 'puter looking at yachts instead of ... whatever we normally do in KW.
Yep seems more productive than getting my ass kicked fly fishing for tarpon.

Samuel L. Jackson as Jules Winnfield: Oh, I'm sorry. Did I break your concentration?
Better than getting my ass kicked by Sloppy Joe's.
Or Russian strippers.
Or both (most likely scenario)
I've never cruised (pretty much all racing for me), but it sure does seem like some of those bareboat charter companies are a little too eager to rent boats out to people...
Meanwhile I know just enough to know that I'd be scared to take one without any prep. I know how to sail the thing (hopefully) fast, but dealing with complex anchorages is not something I have any real experience with.
My wife’s Laser 2… it was her 16th Birthday present. Sailed hard and put away wet for over 35 years. Hull delaminating from the deck and cockpit pan letting in copious amounts of water. Wife and oldest kid almost sank it mid race last year in the local Regatta. Adios, Qucksilver and thanks for the memories!
I rip the groomed on tele gear
do they travel with their boats for a meet like that or is there some sort of loaner system for folks coming from afar?
Math doesn’t add up. She’s only 39, right?
How’s her knee?

Thanks for the update. Tell her I said hi and good luck in September.
The team is able to “charter” from locals or the guy who reps the boats

^^^ That mainsail looks much better. Nice day for a sail!
It was a peach. We asked for the same boat that we put away last evening so we knew exactly what shape it was in. Morning winds were nice and consistent around 7-9 knots so Mrs P could relax, but we moved along at a good clip. I’m learning how to spill just enough wind if we heel beyond her liking and avoid crash gybes which freak her out. With others on board I might have been a little more aggressive. [emoji16]
