THC in my coffee would end my fast real quick. I’d be on the Doritos Locos Tacos for breakfast diet.

Yeah, what Ice said, two non-consecutive days a week you don't eat. There's a whole subculture of people out there who are into fasting for 5, 10, sometimes 15+ days, those people are mental.

Asprey claims that if you consume only fat the lack of insulin response maintains the metabolic benefits of fasting. I think Asprey is a charlatan who is full of shit. It is tasty stuff, though. My version also includes gelatin, theanine and glycine. The wife drinks chai very morning so I usually throw in a packet of that, too. I don't even brew the coffee or chai first. Whole beans, dry tea, and everything else goes into the Blendtec with boiling water and gets blasted on the smoothie setting. Filter with a french press. A large cup of that and I am tuuuuned up.

Trying to do 16/8 IF. Working from home today which is making it much harder to wait until 1pm.

Did you eat dinner at 9pm?
Trick is to eat dinner earlier the night before. Eat at 6pm, then make it till 10am the next day is easier for me anyway. 7-11 is also reasonable. Of course, I do the bulletproof coffee thing as discussed. Not eating is very difficult for me, especially at work.

I ate at 7:30-8:00, which is pretty normal. I don't even get home until 6:15 or so on a normal work day. Honestly, going from 9pm to 1pm (or maybe 8pm to noon) seems easier than 6pm to 10am, I would want to eat later in the evening. Not eating is much harder for me at home, where the fridge is right there. But I'm already at a 16 hour fast, though I am going to wait a little while longer. It hasnt been that hard.

There's this thing when you run out of free glucose in your system and have to start burning glycogen from the liver, it's hard at first but you get used to it fast. It's like an electric car with a gas backup that only takes short trips and the gas engine never runs. Of course it's gonna run rough when you first try to use it.

But if you start taking longer trips and the gas engine gets used frequently, it'll start right up when needed no problem. Basically you have this gas tank in your liver that you're not used to using. What seems hard now will be no issue soon. Like I said, I'm not even very hungry at first when I break fast, but once I eat some I'm starving until I eat a bunch and charge the battery for another cycle. It's really a non-issue for me and I'm confident it will be for you too if you stick with it for a little while.

For motivation just remember that excess glycogen gets converted and stored as fat and if you burn it off that can't happen.

Yeah, everyone is different, which should be a given on every post on this thread. I'm sure I could actually fast without the BP coffee, I have in the past a good amount, but my job does require some physical activity, and that's usually in the first half of the day. The times I tried, I felt like I was going to pass out.

I've been eating a big salad with guac, bacon, blue cheese, chicken, and tomatoes for lunch. Carries me until about 6:30pm when I eat these nutritional shake blended with a can of coconut milk, and some hemp and chia seeds for fiber. That shake carries me until morning coffee pretty darn well. A handful of almonds and I'm right at hitting my numbers on the app.

Camping this weekend should be interesting....

So go eat and enjoy it, have a few drinks as well, it's only one night and won't kill you.

I've gone in and out of keto about three times since January. Once you get the swing of it it's real easy to have cheat days then spend a week getting back to fat burning.

I didn't eat it. Brought some apps to share and ate some of those, ate some cheese, and some grilled eggplant they made, and ate a bratwurst that we brought. Two vodka/LaCroixs helped.

Technically, no. Your body conserves glucose very aggressively. De novo lipogenesis from glucose only occurs at very high levels of CHO intake, or very low fat intake. You are always burning a mix of CHO and fat. Increased CHO intake upregulates the percentage of CHO in the mix and downregulates the percentage of fat. Result is increased storage of dietary fat as body fat. The insulin response from CHO also inhibits hormone-sensitive lipase, which impairs your ability to metabolize stored body fat.

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10365981
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hormone-sensitive_lipase

This is why fried shitcarbs+sugar is so bad. You down a cheeseburger, fries and a big soda, then sit down to watch TV. You've consumed a ton of refined carbs and fat together, so your body has no choice but to ramp up glucose metabolism and shunt the fat into body fat. You are not moving, so a large insulin response is required to clear all the glucose from your bloodstream. This would be bad enough if the soda was all glucose, but it's half fructose which reduces your insulin sensitivity and requires your body to pump out even more insulin to clear the glucose. The extra insulin crashes your blood sugar not long after the meal, and further inhibits HSL. Now, your blood sugar is low and you cannot access body fat for energy, so you feel tired, hungry and shitty. You grab a bag of potato chips and a coke or a frappucino and the cycle repeats.

I'm no expert, I'm just fumbling through it. But in what I have learned, that's too much carbs and too much protein, and not enough fat. Getting fat is hard, that's why people drink bulletproof coffee and make "fat bombs".

Weird to think the human animal spent thousands of years trying to find food when the contemporary concern is how to avoid it.
