I bet it’s awesome. The k98 was dope.

To keep the stoke flowing, here’s some more old man footy.

Certainly not clean, but still the first front flips on snow that either of us have ever skied out of. As the two of us approach a combined age of 100, I’m claiming every milestone, clean or not

Looking at picking up something super playful to ski with my son for next year. He will be 7 and has been cautiously skiing blues this year and I want something to make skiing slowly more interesting. I think it would be fun to learn to 360 off little bits do a butter and fuck around in the trees as he progresses and my collection of long stiff go fast skis are I’ll suited to this use (dd 189 bonafide 97).
Do I want a true park ski for this or something more all mountain? I’m in the Pnw and a big dude so thinking sizing down to 90-100 underfoot and around 180 and cheap so I don’t care about them.

Bent 100 should do? Comes in a 180. Often cheap, check corbetts. Probably similar fun to a park ski in the air and riding switch and waayyyy more fun for the actual all mountain skiing.

Thanks all for the inspiration on this thread. A little scary that 30s and 40s are old for this purpose but here we are. Keep the stoke alive!
Update: Skied the Revolt 95s at Snowbasin’s closing day yesterday. Fun ski overall. Enough backbone and weight to plow through thick snow and mixed conditions. Can lean on the shovels a bit even at -2 mount. Easy to maneuver. They swim a little at speed but are happy with just a little edge for fast GS turns. Only downside I see so far is swing weight is not so light. Didn’t get the 360 - closest I got was a 270 to yard sale but mostly just got to about 180. After some video review I think I’ve got the technique more or less right I just need to do it on bigger jumps. That can be next year’s project along with switch skiing and maybe hitting rails.

    Bents or M-Free 99. Mount both +3 and you'll have a blast.

I have some 4FRNT Switch's and they're too much a "park" only ski for me. Maybe if you size them down, but they don't float well at all and have very long camber and no rocker. Oddly, despite their weight, my J Hotshots are a blast in the park and popping off of everything. You could go that direction if you want a ski that's fun everywhere and in every condition.

Lots of Moment Deathwish's in the park here, too. All mountain and playful.

    Choose your weapon.

Keep at it. I'm 44 and switched from snowboarding to skiing 4 years ago. I was a pretty decent park rider on a board. I started switch riding last year and got pretty solid at it this year. I hit my first rails on skis and landed a couple of small 360's. I need to grow a pair and throw some off of the big jumps. Our resort is open until July, so.... Fingers crossed.

My kid goes full park rat in Spring. He's about to turn 10 and 360's off of everything in sight. I wish I had his leg springs.

I still love ripping park laps as much as I used to. I just dislike falling more now.

There was a solid representation by old men in the park at Dodge Ridge this weekend. Plenty of grey hairs. Spent all day hitting the full jump line top to bottom. Still can't get the courage up to attempt any rotation off them but had a lot of fun anyways. Spring is still young...

It’s that time of year… time to get excited (and scared) about the upcoming old man park skiing season.

If you need a book to whet your appetite, this is a fun one:

Picked these up for cheap in the early summer. 84 underfoot, symmetrical, lots of camber, little bit or early rise, nice and snappy flex. Hoping they convince me hitting some park jumps is a good idea.

Sick backie! On your zero spins, if you shifty harder in the opposite direction you want to look, then you can actually get more of a view at the landing and don't have to be so "head-up-the-hill"

    Thanks JRainey!!

My lumbar spine is a bit sore from the JOTD antics.

But looking forward to getting after it on snow soon, and would love to perfect a big zero spin like Jossi Wells.

I was in the skatepark again last weekend, does that count? Mini ramps, stairs, and flat rails. No backflips yet. But I was sore for a solid two days. My boy and I agreed— we’ll be there a few times a week until the snow starts flying.

    Skateparks. Good shit.

I can still ollie frontside 180. So, that was surprising. My 9yo who has never witnessed me on a board was like— “Holy shit. Dad can skate.” I was like— “I only know how to not fall. Because falling is dangerous at this age.”

My big accomplishment was riding straight down six stairs at speed. Took a minute to figure that out.

We’ll beat the shit out of the decks we currently own and then I predict I’ll be buying a few new kits in April.

Love it. As a dad with teenagers now, I get it.

And the skate park absolutely counts

A few weeks back, I grabbed my kids skateboard and did a 1st try kick flip. He looked at me like I was an alien.

My kids are so far past me in the air. My 11 year old can do double misty flips and cork 9's on the trampoline. I won't be surprised to see park flips out of him this year. I can still smoke him on rails, though.

Yeah Snowmachine, the kids are so good these days it’s ridiculous. Awesome you still have your rail game going though!!

I know this isn’t Newschoolers, but any old men excited about a new park ski setup for 2025? I’m pretty happy with my J Ski Allplay but always curious about the next best thing

I've thought about getting new park skis a few times but I have zero clue about what's out there aside from the on3p offerings. I'm really liking those old(?) atomic punx I picked up last year. I threw some pivots on them and they ski like an old school proper park ski. Light, snappy, still carve pretty well and solid in the flex and air. they had me looking at the park jumps in whistler and considering hitting the ones larger than 10' last year. this coming spring I'll give it a go. How are the Allplays? I've heard good things about J's from a few different people.

Skating 100% counts. I picked up a board a few years back to learn at 37 once my daughter started on her push bike. I skate 2-3 times a week now and it's an exercise in remembering that concrete is really hard and commitment is king. Well done you guys on stairs, rails, and kickflips, that's awesome!

not so sure about "next best thing", but I dig my armadas.
-I have the al dente/edollo that is essentially a rock ski now, but it's a surprisingly versatile ski if you like skiing around the mountain on a park shape.
-ive also had the bdogs and I would say the same thing.. not a charger by any means, but surprisingly capable around the mountain if you like skiing on a park shape. recommended center mount but I went a cm back because I don't like true center mounts even if its recommended.
-currently on the strangers mounted +6 from recommended. very fun and versatile, although a bit heavy for a pure park ski.. but skis great on the whole mountain and can rip the park at the bottom of the run. watch some mike hornbeck or Kim boberg videos to see them in action
-new for armada this year is the kimbo, which is essentially Kimbos take on the stranger. same shape but skinnier, lighter, and the mount point is designed more around center.. im very interested in these but doubt ill be able to cop a pair this year. they only come in a 182 and all my armadas ive had recently size about 1.5cm short

the faction prodigy shapes are super fun.. got some new to me on3p jeronimos this season.. ive had kartels and magnuses before.. would like to try the new mango shapes just to see what's up.

I’ve been telling myself for the past few seasons I’m finally going to grab some moment frankenskis and every year I end up buying other moments. I’m at the point now though that my moment quiver is pretty loaded and the only thing I need from them now is frankenski. So I think this might be the season. Unfortunately they already sold out so I’m waiting for the next batch. I just have to hope they don’t drop anything amazing in the reserve drops. Other wise I’ll be waiting another year for frankenskis.

Man, I would love to try E Dollos, the Moment Frankenski, and the ON3P Mango.

I don’t love a true center mount, I feel like -3 cm from center is usually about right for my taste.

I’m only 5’ 10” on a good day, but I still prefer all my skis in the 181-184 cm straight pull length range.

I also like my park skis to be reasonable all mountain skis, so that’s probably why I have the above preferences.
