I've been a fan of taking either Terro liquid bait or Grant Kills Ants stakes, opening them up and mixing in some maple syrup into the posion. Put it out and they can't resist. Diluting the poison helps them carry it all the way back home as well.

Mind the pets and kiddos though.
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

Has anyone here built their own furnace/crucible for making little castings like these?

Me too. This guy doesn't make it seem too hard: http://www.instructables.com/id/Cast...minum-Anthill/

Apparently zinc works too (just use a bunch of pennies) and has a much lower melting temp than aluminum, but has some drawbacks: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3383426/

There are actually some hardcore PETA types who think doing this with living colonies is unethical. Mind boggling.

Like someone posted above DE kills non targets. Basically anything with a exoskeleton.

I have heard good things about a borax, sugar and water solution.

Scientists now have decisive molecular evidence that humans and chimpanzees once had a common momma and that this lineage had previously split from monkeys.

We have a nest of Formica aserva nearby our lot, and they can be seen on slaving raids several times a summer. I've noticed them more than 25m from where their nest is suspected. They're pretty effective at controlling the other colonies near the garden. Very cool to watch.

I think this is a great idea.

    I'd buy that outfit too.

I had the problem last year with them crawling up into our house. All I had around here was permethrin for spraying our clothes (tick, mosquito protection). I sprayed it along the side of the house and they stopped coming up. Had to repeat every couple of days for a week or so till the gave up. Not the best solution probably but it worked to discourage them from coming into our bathroom where there is no food for them anyway.

edit: our foundation is poured concrete and that is what I sprayed. Dirt abutting wood would rot out in a couple three years here in Iowa. If you have rotten wood that they are eating they are going to keep coming for it. If they aren't getting food discouragement will work eventually once the ants forget about the path which takes a bit.

We have some species of tiny ant that has exploded in the last week in the dirt zone of our back yard. Literally dozens of little 4" diameter circles. Put out tons of borax gel and cornstarch which seems to be doing nothing. They don't seem to even be touching the stuff. Any suggestions besides the Terro Perimeter? No pets, but this zone is basically a giant sandbox for kids.

Liquid metal method is best left for the big fire ant colonies. These are too small and numerous.
