the kid loves this show but every time i watch zeb hogan he seems like a bumbling idiot fucking up the catch while traumatizing the fish, hogging camera time and taking credit for the stuff the locals tell him.

I don’t know who Zeb Hogan is and I didn’t click your link, but I know a bit about fishing, and I think you’ve summed up modern game fishing quite well. It’s a junk show out there.

Hogan earned an undergraduate degree in ecology and evolutionary biology from the University of Arizona. He later became a visiting Fulbright student at the Environmental Risk Assessment Program at Thailand's Chiang Mai University. Returning to the United States, Hogan completed a National Science Foundation-sponsored Ph.D. in ecology at the University of California, Davis. He is currently a fellow at the University of Wisconsin and a World Wildlife Fund fellow. Hogan now leads a new National Geographic Society project to identify and protect the world's largest freshwater fishes.

I caught a fish on bait last week.

It was a blue marlin, probably 400+ lbs. It first tried to eat a plastic lure, but that didn't have a hook in it. I dropped back a dead mackerel and the marlin ate that.

Am I dead to you?

Can't really handline a fish that big on 50-pound. But I think my rod was too short to be tenkara. Doesn't it have to be like 15 feet long?
