I just went out to get some lunch & got acosted by a German TV crew. They interviewed me and asked how badly London will be affected by this, I replied: "We got through the Blitz, we can get through this". Got to stick one up the Jerries at any opportunity!

Phew! My train into King's Cross got in about 10 minutes before mayhem struck so I'm OK. I normally go by tube to Russel Square tube where there was a bomb in the tunnel. All of the therapists have been doing portering duties taking emergency equipment to Russel Sq tube . My colleague saw 5 people on the ground but didn't stop to look. I went around later to collect equipment and the casualties had gone but there was blood everywhere inside the station. Some of my porter mates were busy mopping it up with blankets etc. They are now bringing out the dead. One of the nurses said there were 17 bodies on the station platform. There are some gruesome stories going around of what people saw etc. We are now just staying put and waiting for when we will be needed again.

Shit, your city under seige. NYC mags, I felt for you then and I'm feeling it for you a lot more now.

Did the Germans forget about past IRA attacks that London endured?

this has been surely planned for months, and according to bookmakers paris had more chances than london to get the olympics. You say osama has better insight than bookmakers?

No, no, I was just speculating about what people/athletes/other countries might be thinking about being in London for the olympics. It's not as if any one place is safer than another. Nobody is safe from terrorism, not even terrorists. I was just thinking out loud. I didn't mean to give the wrong impression.

i live in london. like, i'm sure everyone else there, i know people who were very close to what happened. it's not a nice feeling, but how does getting angry and lashing out help? if anything it just makes things worse, engenders more ill feeling, and leads to further atrocities

    276 BC-SNAPSHOT---SECURITY-BRITAIN-ATTACKS :BC-SNAPSHOT - SECURITY-BRITAIN-ATTACKS SNAPSHOT - London attacks - 1400 GMT
    NEWS
    * At least 45 people killed and 1,000 wounded in four blasts hitting London's transport network at rush hour, Sky TV said.
    * Interior Minister Charles Clarke says they are "terrorist attacks"
    * Prime Minister Tony Blair calls the attacks "barbaric" and leaves the G8 summit in Scotland temporarily to return to London to oversee the emergency
    * Previously unknown group claims responsibility in the name of al Qaeda.
    * Financial markets tumble
    QUOTES
    * "If what we are looking at is a simultaneous bombing, and it does look like that, it would very certainly fit the classic al Qaeda methodology ... multi-seated hits on transport and infrastructural targets," said Shane Brighton, intelligence expert at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence.
    * "I was on the bus. I looked round and the seats behind me were gone," middle-aged victim of the bus blast in London
    * "You could see bodies on the road outside," said eyewitness Peter Gordon. "There was smoke everywhere. It was carnage."
    * "We will not yield to these terrorists, we will find them, we will bring them to justice," said U.S. President George W. Bush.
    * London mayor Ken Livingstone called the attacks "mass murder" and added: "This is not an attack against the rich and powerful. It is not an attack on the politicians, but on the common working people of London."
    * "I'm deeply saddened that this should happen at the heart of an Olympic city. Unfortunately there is no safe haven. No one can say their city is safe," said International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge in Singapore. ((Editing by Rosalind Russell)) 071402 GMT jul 05

    I agree with vertigo.

To be honest, I'm not sure what to think. We're a bit cocooned in the hospital here (which doesn't have an emergency department) and everything is suprisingly calm in the surrounding area, though still cordened off. I just had a wander outside to look for a colleague. It probably hasn't sunk in yet. I just want to get home before dark!

One of my friends was on the bus in front. They called a red alert and evacuated the bus. She walked away around the corner and heard the bomb go off. So easily could have been her. Thank god.

This is really awful news. So glad to see the nearby Euros checking in.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.
