The bike I have been riding is a full XTR Intense Tracer, so I want my new ride to be set up at least as good as that if not better

I want this ride to be fairly tricked out, but Im not going to get crazy with buying titanium bolts and shit.

I know a guy that rides primarily fr/dh, he's got an X9 on one bike and an XO on the other. I quizzed him on the Ti spring, etc. but he claims he's never noticed a difference in the performance between the two, been very happy with both.

Unless you can get a sweet deal on an XO (ebay, friends, etc.) I think Phunk is right... go with the X9 so you don't cry when you blow your deraillier.

I bet you ten bucks the X.9 shifts as well as, or better than, your XTR. I'm going to drop it now because you're going to love the ride either way. Post pics when it's built fool!

    Oh, hell no.

And I second the suggestion for the Fox Vanilla RC 125. Great fork for half of what the 36 costs.

I've been beating down on a Truvativ Crank/BB for about 3 years on my Bullit and have had no problems.

I've been abusing even worse an XT front/rear hubset on my hardtail and they are still rolling nicely. Tough choice. Kings are nice, but maybe a bit too spendy. Rims? Kinda heavy, but I've been impressed with the Atom Labs Trail Pimps.

CS, why the hell not on the grip shift??? i friggin love the grip shift. so far everything about it is better than any other system i have used.

yes, i would agree that x9 will probably shift better than xtr. now that i have gone sram it will take alot to get me to go back to shimano.

Just preference I guess. I can't stand grip shifts. But I do agree that SRAM is superior to Shimano.

I went from XTR to X.9, and have never looked back. Even with a split rear hanger, my X.9 still shifted fairly well. I couldn't say that about XTR on a perfect bike. My X.9 setup has been absolutely flawless. I've never ridden X.0, so I can't compare. But I will tell you that X.9 is kickyourmominthehead sweet, and you'll be perfectly happy with it.

As for cranks, my XT Hollowtech II cranks have taken a serious beating and they're still going strong. Just get rid of the 44. I've beat mine all to hell and will be replacing it with a 38 this week. Or you could just replace it with a bash guard. I'm going with the 38 cause I still use the big ring occasionally. But I use it so infrequently, I'd much rather have the extra ground clearance. A 44 is overkill. All it's good for is getting caught on stuff. I would give you the same advice for any triple, they all come with 44s I think.

I swear by Race Face cranks. Been runnin' the carbon ones with the ISIS BB and have no complaints. Super light, super stiff & super cool looking!

Hard to go wrong with anything Chris King. The hubs are bomber!

    Crank Bros Egg Beater Pedals.

Salsa flip off skewers are nice too.

I find it hard to believe that a 'perfect bike' had shifting issues with XTR drivetrain. Sounds like an isolated incident to me.

Not hating on SRAM, but XTR is no slouch at all.

cant we all agree that drivetrains all suck inherently?

i believe that to be one of the only truths of cycling.

I dunno, after ussing XTR I am defintly not a huge shimano supporter anymore, and like I said before I might even go out of my way to avoid buying anything from them..... Im all for the small guy especially when they make a better componet at a lower price....

As far as upside down forks go, Im not to stoked on that Idea, I dont see them lasting as long in my neck of the woods.

Race face is defintly an option, I have lots of friends that seem to love em.

    Rohloff hub. I want one.

Edit: Oh, and the Avalanche fork WOULD last a long time, from what I've heard. It's beastly, and weighs close to a gazillion pounds.

An inverted fork is not necessary for the riding you'll be doing. I would look into a Marzocchi 66RC. And if you get ISIS cranks, stay away from Race Face bottom brackets at all costs.

First off, fuck off phUnk. Secondly, I'll sell you my lightly used Marzocchi Z1 with 5" travel for dirt cheap. Just needs an oil change and new seals, like I said. Third, Grants's gf rides a bigger bike than he does. Funny?

i have heard of that.. once.
if you are in the market for an avalanche, i don't know if you worry too much about having your stanchions slightly more exposed. i have an old inverted shock and the stanchions are fucked up. but i dont think i've ever run the fork into a rock while i was on it. after wrecking is another story, but once you throw the bike down, rocks will hit your forks wheather they are inverted or not.

i would say its sort of rocky around here... but they arnt very sharp rocks. bill's shiver has stood up to three years of this.

    edit:

God bless EC DH parts, and God bless shinburgers.

I was going to spew a bunch of stuff about SRAM, but at this point it is like arguing what band is better. I will say this though, I would hardly count SRAM as "the little guy". They are currently the only company that can offer a full top of the line MTB component set. (SRAM shifters, Avid brakes, Truvativ cranks/bars/stems, RS forks and shocks). They are set for world domination as far as I am concerned.

Rather than fueling the SRAM v Shimano war, I will instead show my solidarity for the pink to purple fade 1992 Specialized Hard Rock riders of America. I still ride mine with pride (in SS form), woo hoo!
As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way.

SRAM anything better than XTR? That's just silly. I'm sorry but if you or your mechanic knows what they are doing, nothing will work better than XTR. Oh, and it's not made out of plastic.
