    aftermarket strap-on diagonal ski carrier?

I have a ski touring pack that I like a lot (made by Life-Link, 5 years old), but it uses the compression straps to carry my skis a-frame style. I have been admiring the DaKine packs with the diagonal carry system for some time, but can't bring myself to give up on my trusted LL pack just for a carry system that I don't know if I like.
Does anybody make an after market diagonal ski carry system? I can imagine it as a pretty simply designed product, just webbing, a slidelock buckle, and the holder bit.
Anybody know of such a product or alternative?

Never heard of such a thing, but it sounds like you have it designed.

    now go build it.

Summit1776 posted a design matching your on the Powder forums awhile back. Do a search there and I bet you find it.

Send me $20 plus shipping. I'll spend $5 at the ACE, drink the change and mail it back. Until I just got my new back, I'd been using a North Face back with a full custom diagonal ski strapping system[/mtr]. It' sooper easy. Tie a loop of webbing on the bottom right. Make a loop with a buckle on the top left.

    Ski carrier?

There are slings out there that might function. At least for the ski holder part, then you'd have to rig up a way to attach it to the pack.

I used to use something similar to the "bowtie" before I got a vertical carry pack.
I'd hike with a large fannypack and diagonal slung skis in the post-lift-season.

Go for the fat ski model.

Good runs when you get them.

Just stop by REI or Walmart and buy two ~12"x1" or 1.5" nylon webbing and two plastic pushlock clips (you know the things that are on waist straps on backpacks). Run one webbing/clip through the ice axe loop and the other through a compresson strap on the opposite side or the top handle (where you can hang the bag from). It works as good as any premade system and you can modify just about any pack for ~$5. I used it all winter. It never failed ever and it was much easier to hook and unhook compared to a clip and loop combo like Dakine uses where you ahve to thread the skies through. It also allows for a more balanced carry since you can clip the lower webbing inbetween the heel and tow piece on the binding... something you can't do with a fixed bottom loop pack.[/QB]
