    Ikon Pass

I believe it’s 12 and under as of the date you buy the pass.

    Edit: from the FAQ

WHAT IS THE CUTOFF AGE FOR CHILD AND TEEN PASSES?
The cutoff age is determined by the date of purchase.

4 and Under Pass: If the individual is 4 years old on the date of purchase, he or she qualifies for the 4 and Under age Ikon Pass
Child (5 - 12) Pass: If the individual is between 5 and 12 years old on the date of purchase, he or she qualifies for the Child Pass
Teen (13 - 17) Pass: If the individual is between 13 and 17 years old on the date of purchase, he or she qualifies for the Teen Pass
Because rich has nothing to do with money.

Isn't this really early to have season pass pricing released and pass sales to start?

What? Not digging on a basin but powder does not last longer than other Co Vail resorts, not even close. The mountain is simply too small and too easy to spot the good lines. For good powder skiing a basin is probably one of the quickest to get tracked up IME.

I was at ABasin last Tuesday and there was nice fresh tracks along the west wall at 1 in the afternoon.

You all need to stop skiing weekend powder days

You do realize that 1:00 is barely halfway through the ski day, right?

Unfortunately while the Ikon Pass is pretty awesome, I think ultimately the only thing it’s going to do is increase the overall number of skiers in CO. It’s not going to make anywhere less crowded, even the Epic resorts.

Skier numbers have been flat for a very long time, actually down this year. Somehow it is still always crowded, and revenues keep going up, mainly because prices keep increasing. I'm hopeful that stuff like this will help spread people out, only time will tell. I talk to a lot of frangers and they still LOVE the Epic in these parts. I don't claim to understand it, but they fucking love to ski the Stone, and Breck is no longer Vail's white trash step sister, it's actually cooler, and gets more visits.

I don't think Summit County resorts are down.

This year is as busy as I've ever seen it and employees from several resorts have said their numbers are up.

My guess is that its because Summit was the only place in CO with snow for a bit

Hard to believe, I agree. Vail doesn't report #'s with the rest of the resorts so tough to tell.

Overall, as an industry, skier visits don't vary that much year to year and have been flat for a while. So that means the resorts are all just fighting for a slice of the same sized pie every year. This pass might compete more than in the past, and hopefully spread things out.

Vail still has the biggest draw, and I don't think the Ikon will change that very much. 5 resorts in close proximity with unlimited days is still hard to beat in CO. Copper, WP, Eldo, and Steamboat are the closest thing this pass offers and they are all at least an hour or two apart.

Anyone remember the good old days when the buddy pass was $199? Damn, that seems like a long time ago!

I'd buy a Keystone-Abasin pass and a Loveland Pass and be pretty happy. I think that combo was only about $500 just over 10 years ago.

Not trying to be a Vail fan boy but I’d be willing to bet Vail’s back half had pow through Thursday same goes for places at Breck where you have to work for it or the wind drops it in from the west side of the ridge (quasi powder). 1:00 isn’t impressive, especially for a week day. Much love for a basin, I just don’t expect powder when I go there, at least not for long.

It would be interesting to see historical weekday/weekend numbers. Weekends I think are more crowded than they have been, I-70 feels like it at least. I wonder about the week days. Summit county is probably a bit of an anomaly givin it’s proximity to the exploding metropolis of Denver. “Destination” ski days may very well be down.

I can attest to that for Wednesday. Found plenty of good shots all over the Bowls and BSB. The powder hunt can really be fun there with that huge expanse of terrain.

Weekday pow days are no longer a reprieve at Summit resorts... hell even Abasin and Loveland track out damned fast on most weekdays. Sure you can tell me that 3 hours in there is a semitracked 20deg run on Lower East Wall after you traverse 5 minutes around and lose half your vert, but yea... there are a lot more people both in Summit and Denver who are able to drop whatever they are doing anytime it farts 5" of fluff from the sky.

I often look around on those midweek powder days and think “does anyone work?!”

I’m really hoping that the Ikon not only spreads people out but sends them to other places ie. Jackson, Alta/Bird, Tahoe.

And as crowded as Breck and Vail can get, I really don’t have problems getting away from it.

I think the resorts being crowded on weekdays has way more to do with the availability of weather and conditions information than anything else. There's no such thing as a sleeper pow day. Whether it's OpenSnow, resort webcams, or social media, it's not hard to find out who's got the goods.

Really? Did Mammoth announce a price (or zero availability) for a pure Mammoth-only pass for next year, or for a Mammoth/June/Big Bear pass for next year?

I think the information availability is far more minor than people who either don't have jobs, have flexible jobs, or say "fuck my job." I think OpenSnow had as much impact as say TGR threads about how much better weekday powderdays are or about how Loveland has no lines and pow forever (10 years ago)

I disagree. People are teeing up a couple days in advance, planning their flex time based on Joel's latest model read. That is why we see the massive bursts of front strangers.
