I call bullshit. You aren't traversing, you're going ever so slightly down hill.

I have never seen a snowboarder in the middle of the East wall at ABasin. Can't get there

Benny, just stop. You sound foolish. Most traverses are slightly downhill - especially the longer ones - so you can keep your momentum going.

Benny's generally right as far as the lower East Wall traverse. I've seen a small handfull of boarders on it. I don't recall many (any?) getting as far as Willy's, however. They usually turn downhill where a skier has to do a bit of polling.

Yup. All they can hope for is the rock garden. Even then, needs skills.

I actually have Benny on ignore (only person on my ignore list!) so I assume he's saying some dumb shit. Hey Benny, come to the bird and try to keep up with me - I promise you won't be able to! I'll be through the high saddle gate before you get over that one uphill spot.

EDIT: oh man, I read his posts, bad idea LMAO. Yeah, sure, I ride 80 days a year in LCC and don't know how to traverse. Riiiiiight.

This ain't fuckin summit county, Benny. I call "bullshit" on your being an expert skier, judging from your posts. Stop standing in the traverse!

So that one example defines traverses all over the planet? Generally, he’s dead wrong... most of them are slightly downhill... because duh.

Squawlpine (my home resort) has more traverse lines than almost anywhere, FWIW.

Reread my comment and you'll note that I'm adding perspective to ONE traverse.

It may pain you to admit it, but you're in agreement with Benny - that traverses generally trend slightly downhill.

It so happens that the lower East Wall traverse flattens out a bit in the middle and this serendipitously keeps the rif-raff out ;-)

Used to be that the west was seen as, laid back. Those days are long gone. Bunch of aggro brobrahs, harshing the mellow. Shackle I and I buzz, lame. Come east if you want the roots vibe. For real, VT-NH-ME, so kind and no traverses!

Yeah... it was... before all those uptight Easterners overran the place.

    Amirite??

I blame it all on the hot Jersey girls.

Seriously, I don't think it was ever laid back. In the 70's in Aspen, if you didn't have a pickup truck and a golden retriever with a red bandanna around its neck, you weren't "official".

Uptight Easterners, tailgating Californians ... same shit with different frosting.

Good lord - you can't blame those fools. FFS - being from the Midwest is punishment enough...

I strongly suggest you go back and re-read the last several posts.

Here, I'll help you, here's what Benny said: "You aren't traversing, you're going ever so slightly down hill."

So he's saying if the line is ever so slightly downhill, it's not a traverse. Get it? That's a dumb thing to say.

Lol. Sounds like we should make some turns together at the Bird soon and maybe flip some birds benny's way.

Oh and also I'm from Ohio. There's a reason we all leave.

I stand corrected. Flat is obviously a traverse, but so is trending slightly downhill.

So now we get to parse this minutae, categorizing at what gradient threshold something stops being a traverse ... until it hurts.

Snow must be receding. People are getting touchy.

Sometimes people are lazy, much of the time it's just terrain dependent. A good traverse goes down slightly overall but has just enough ups and downs along the way that it's easy to both maintain momentum but also without having to go too fast and get sketchy.

+1 for middle aged skiers clogging traverses at Snowbird. I think most boarders are aware of their inadequacies when it comes to traversing and act accordingly. Whether its a skier or boarder, its usually someone who's painfully unaware of what they are doing, not someone who "couldn't make it."

8 days left to decide. My girl just turned 9. Still stops on traverses sometimes. We try to be good parents but shit is hard. Sorry world.

For fucks sake people, arguing over what qualifies as a traverse and none of you got it right. Doesn't matter if it's down, flat, or uphill, if you are going across the damn hill, you are traversing, and therefore doing it wrong. Unless it is physically impossible, follow the ridge until you are on top of you line, then point it down the fall line. Being afraid to ski the steep stuff or jump some shit on the way does not qualify as impossible. Tahoe J, talking about how Squawpine has so many traverses, all except a small handful are there just because people are either too lazy or too incompetent to ski it from the top of the line. I suspect that is how it is at many of the place y'all are bitching about. How many of you have actually skied the east wall? Not the bottom 200 feet, the actual fucking wall?

^^ You literally said nothing that contradicts anything I said. As for Alpine, sometimes yes, sometimes no. If patrol closes the high ridge line, as they do frequently, then you traverse over as high as you can. You fucking know this so I call bullshit on the high horse posturing.
