    DB skis question

    I guess this is TT:
If I were to order a pair of tabla rasas within the next month, could I expect them to arrive by the first pow days? I want these planks but I don't want to be waiting until January to be mounting them, like some of the folks I talked to on the hill in febuary of this year who had just recieved theirs.
    Thanks.
You look like I need a drink.

What did DB have to say?

From whom would you order from?
    Cyrill or Stephan?

Stephan informed to my inquiries in may something like "production goes up in summer months and first (some? most?) pairs should ship in the end of the summer" or something.

I personally put it in my mind, like "If i get the planks winter ´06 i´ll be happy".

    It was about TRs.
Havent heard from either of them for last 2 months, though.

The floggings will continue until morale improves.

the web site is up like nothing every happened & you could call & have a pair send to your house!!!(cool)

But from what has been posted on the web & forums...few ever got there skis

Now, no doubt the TR is a cool ski.... someone should get to the bottom of the availability question!

The idea that i got from stephans mails was that the Us side keeps producing the TRs as they are, without changes(well exept the topsheet DrakeBoinay part.), in the goodes factories.
But as said, time will show.

I am under the same impression, but haven't heard from either the Euros or Drake/Goode for several months as well; of course, I haven't made any recent inquiries recently either.

A post over on ttips mentions that the new US company may go into business under the name "Drake Powderworks" and that the Tabla Rasa will be renamed the Lotus.

Googling the above doesn't pull up a website yet.

The Lotus (tabla) is going to be built under dp (drake powderworks). The new site will launch on August 15th.

If you had a reservation for a tabla under db, your name and order has been transfered over to the Lotus, and as soon as a ski is ready (late summer/early fall projection), we will email you to see if you want to go ahead with it.

If anyone has questions about an existing reservation, wants to shoot the breeze, or put their name on the 05-06 reservation list, 801.621.2300 x 118 9-5 mtn. time.

    db information

    dear tt and community

here some feedback from our side:

our db project has met a lot of big challenges and problems during the past two years. one major issue for us was the quality of our carbon skis that we had planned to introduce to the market. after the first year, a lot of problems were solved but of course new problems came up. our producer was not able to deliver enough skis meeting our quality requirements. in the second year it turned out, that still, 23% of the skis were warranty cases. a lot of skis broke and in some broken skis a layer of kevlar was missing, though stated in the production specifications. so we ended up having serious quality problems with the skis delivered by our former producer and there was the risk that our customers could get hurt while using their carbon skis.

we had some cases, where skiers had to walk back for hours with a snapped ski. the thought of having a customer with a damaged ski in an exposed line made us feel very uncomfortable as security and quality are two top issues for us.

this, and the exodus of the production to china finally lead to the break-up between us here in europe and the production in the usa. the american ownerpart decided to continue the cooperation with this production company.

we are now working on a new project with the leading company in carbon fiber technology to produce the core of the skis and an european ski-producer for a professional molding. but the process from here to getting great powder skis is still long and we have learned out of previously made mistakes.

we will not promise anything about new skis until we have tested them thoroughly on quality and rideability, and until the production is running smoothly and skis are actually available.

from the legal point of view we could work on with the existing brand. in reality we will market the skis under a variation to contrast with the existing skis. in the meantime, we wish you a great summer and will inform you about news on our new project soon.

in any case we wish stephan good luck and hope the drake powderworks works.

Hmm, there's a couple of companies of this nature.

    What state are they in?

website is www.dpskis.com, as in DrakePowderworks, but doesn't look like it's got anything more than a (blank) front page yet.

Saw the reviews and pictures in Couloir for dp skis. I guess they've "manufactured" a few topsheets this year. Cassiar, Wailer, Lotus = r, surreal, tr respectively. It must be hard to sell skis that don't exist from a website that isn't online. I'm curious to see cyril's european offerings.

The brand appeal you built through word of mouth based on the strength of reviews and 60 pairs of skis was phenomenal. Its almost a branding tragedy to have gone separate ways considering not one (of 60) who received skis was anything less than stoked to ski on your skis. It's almost as though Goode, coincidentally your only composite competitor (not that you haven't kicked this idea around the table), realized that you had a better design, better branding, better vision. Unless they're a partner I can't imagine what sort of incentive they would have to help a competitor. Nevertheless I found it fascinating to watch this unravel over the course of the year. Good luck to the both of you and please ship some mags some of the skis you promised them last year.

On TGR there is a thread about this in tech talk, Cornelius (sp) seems to have hit the nail on the head.
Maybe in a perfect world DB can get back together and produce some hot skis. Come on guys, quit screwing around, you make something that rocks now get it in our hands.

    Damn, looking complicated again.
    Pity.

The saga of year # 2 is just beginning.
The season # 1 was a complete fiasco.
    Might be better this year.
    I hope so.
Until really nice news (manufacturing going on like an example), I'll keep waiting that (his/their) dream comme true then mine will follow. More than a dream the reality I guess! Like carbon skis under my feet and skiing a lot in pow!! Good luck. Stay tuned, it's always "passion" here.
DB or DP? Future will tell.

    Emm...

I´m sorry. Those news and that article is about 4-5 months old.
DP has now apparently broken up with goode and is planning (to some rumours) putting up a own factory/facility.

Stephan says he has a new manufacturing partner.
Manufacturers screwing people just increase the competition.
Though they would argue differently, I'm sure, there are many that are shooting themselves in the wallet with all this screwing around.
I guess it's not such a bad thing for more small guys to do their own manufacturing.
    It's an evolution.
    Or a revolution.
