wouldn’t have happened in a sports tube. Maybe you don’t understand how hard the plastic is. This isn’t some soft sided bag. It’s. Solid tube of thermo formed plastic. You could drag the case down the fucking runway and it wouldn’t wear through. Only thing destroying the tube is either the tug or plane running it over.

I used to travel with SportTubes….you are right/ they do protect from damage….but TSA kept losing the friggin pins that held it all together…..They would get opened/f’ed up every trip….

I have switched back to roller bags….I have Volkl Pro bags that have held up pretty good/ plus they can fit my 190+ big dog travel skis.

Roller bags don’t seem to get opened as much….and if they do/ they don’t screw everything all up like they did w/ our SportTubes…but you are correct, the SportTube does protect better from the luggage/cargo guys.

Have a great trip….I’ll be out in CO in March.

ive been fortunate that tsa has always put the pin back. That being said they did lose my good friends pin when he flew out of SC.

tsa did destroy my lock though last time. It’s a standard tsa lock but somehow they basically blew it up and gave me all the pieces taped up in a handful of parts.

Ski bags are a wear item. I’ve found the evo ones to be really nice and can be had on decent sale if you’re patient.

I'm sure it's not as great of quality as the best ones out there, but just picked up one of these and quite impressed for the price. Especially, when they put them on sale for $63 CAD.

    https://www.sportchek.ca/en/pdp/ripz...334200240.html

Fairly well padded, adjustable length, and the wheels seem pretty solid. Can fit in 3 pair of skis, or 2 alpine and 2 xc skis. For this trip, I was able to fit 2 pair if skis, all my ski clothing, avy gear and glacier kit including ice axe.

We'll see how long it lasts, but it seems solid, and for the price, it's replaceable fairly often.

That’s a sweet bag. Wonder if a guy can get some 192’s in there? Says 190, but?

I have an older but barely used Douchebags roller that’s pretty sick. Also always good for a laugh at check-in. No idea what it cost because it was a gift but it’s definitely a well made product.

I’d definitely sell if someone is interested- if I can’t catch fish with it or ski away in it I don’t want it.

I have the double tube. Fits 194’s with room to spare. I believe 202 is max in the tube.

Have been getting this question often from friends. I'm still using my PM Gear Double Trouble/AJ Kitt bag circa early 2000s?!?! Crazy it's been that long and still in good shape. Was able to get 4! pair of skis + poles for my family in mine, though my kid and wifes skis all on integrated/demo tracks so could remove bindings to keep under 50lbs. Which brings me to my question...

The only downside is the weight of the PM Gear bag at ~12lbs empty. Worth picking up one of those $100 sierra double soft sided sport-tubes? Max ski length is 185 for me these days so no need for the extra length. Durable enough? Have been recommending the Dakine roller double which I'd read good things about here, but never actually used.

Any comparisons to my ancient PM bag vs these options?

I love my dakine double roller, just wish it had compression straps inside and out. This bag by powder 7 will probably be my next one: https://www.powder7.com/Powder7-Skic...r-Ski-Bag/sale

The reason I like the Dakine Fall Line double vs the more burly older Concourse Double (I owned both) is it's significantly lighter. Sure it's less.protextove ,but I fill my bag with fleeces and crap so I haven't had ang issues , and I can get more crap in there bc I'm saving weight on the bag itself. Bags have held up well through multiple flights every year. They also fold up easily in hotel rooms.

Agree that some compression straps or internal straps would be nice, but I've managed with the minimalist setup as is

if you’re talking about the soft sided Sportube the big benefit is that use their hard plastic to create a hard case on the ends of the bag.

essentially they cut a Sportube hard case in half and put each end inside the soft bag. So you gain more protection over a standard soft sided bag but less than the full hard plastic sportubes.

Nice, thx for feedback. Traveling next week with my old one, will decide if I need an upgrade lugging the big one around with probably only a single pair of skis.

This ^^^. Had a Concourse way back and have had fall line for many years now (albeit with duct tape on wear spots).

Use plastic bubble wrap around skis/bindings and on ends. Light, semi-protective, doesn’t soak up water, plenty more available (Amazon packages), and disposable.

Anyone know if you can really fit two pairs of skis in the DB 70L bag?

It’s possible, but it’s tight and depends on the size of the skis. I was just barely able to fit my wife’s 154cm/85mm and my 184/106’s, but I might have a hard time getting two of my skis to Tetris in there.

If you definitely need two pairs to fit, go with the bigger version. I have a Dakine double for when we need to bring 2+ pairs. The DB 70L is perfect for one pair plus helmet, clothes etc.

Is this a recurrent deal on Sierra? The way you said "again" implies that maybe it is. They are out right now, but I could possibly wait if there's a good chance it will pop up again in the future.

I have the original PM Gear / AK roller ski bag stored somewhere, if anyone is interested. Huge, burly, I'll probably never use it again.
