How real are these issues? I would say that the experience you will gain on the trail will help you sort out these issues when you return to reality.....Besides, when else would you be able to spend that much time or attempt the AT?

If you said you were gooing skiing in another hemisphere, then I would say go for it. But for the App Trail, I say stay at home, and wait for winter with the rest of us.

Running away from personal issuses is one of the main reasons a lot of us go to the mountains in the first place.

Have fun and take some pics.

Wook, if you let me know when you'll be passing through NH and ME, maybe we can work out some trail magic for you.

As far as the issues, let them burn.

I'd say doing the AT thing is going to give you ample time alone with your thoughts and sort out the issues so that you can properly deal with them when you get back.

However, before you go, deal what needs to be dealt with - if there's someone depending on you for something, for example, then you've got to smoove that out first.
