A bit of a mixed bag. Some of the areas inundated were in the FIRM 1% flood area, but some were outside of it. Additionally some places that are in the 1% area stayed dry. https://www.whatcomcounty.us/Documen...eas-PDF?bidId=
I know of two levee failures during the flooding, but neither contributed significantly to the flooding. One was a small creek that failed outside of the 100-year flood area but only impacted a few homes, and another was a levee failure on the Nooksack that occurred in the floodway after the peak of the flooding.
Sediment levels in the river have risen significantly since that map was last updated though, and no work has been permitted to remove any of it. Perhaps this flood will change that.

What a mess. I watched an older video where a hydrologist said the design flood (500 year) for Fraser River is something near 60,000 m^3/s. From poking around at various river gauges, the highest I could find for this flood is 6,000 m^3/s. Anyone know what's up with that? I suppose it does look like the normal 100-year flood aftermath in California - some area near a river covered in brown water, ag land or former ag land.

Hope you all dry out soon.

Thanks for the info. A lot is going to be different now.

Looks like it's going to be a wild one hitting the west coast this week. Was insanly winding in W2 last night. Lots of snow in the Blues.

Tuesday evening will be interesting in the western foothills. Snoqualmie valley has gusts predicted to be in the 70 mph range.

That video I linked mentions that Bend is looking at high winds. I think I'm out of it but could get some down slope winds from the Blues.

I think this event hits the coast and cascade foothills. Seattle looks fine. The low pressure in the pacific is sucking in air from over the cascades and it picks up speed on the down slope

That video mentions the difference with this one compared to years past is the east wind component. It's not as fierce as the west BUT trees are used to it so are more likely to come down. There is also going to be a tight squeeze through the Stampede gap that is going to present some issues.

To be clear this will not be a Columbus Day storm.

Yep, probably a garden variety storm for the Seattle metro. Could be interesting for the Cascade foothills and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

This is going to favor the east slopes of central WA as far as snow goes , point forecast for my house in Wenatchee is [emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]]-[emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji639]]”. Mission looks like it’s going to get closer to [emoji638]’.

Yeah, we might get 40-50mph gusts but that’s not unusual here during winter storms. Winds will be from the south according to my Windy app.

USCG could use the money. I'm hoping the generator starts when I get home from the coast and into the bullseye tomorrow night.

Not looking forward to tonight. Last easterly storm that came through demolished many branches that fell and smashed my deck railings. The wind rips down between Tiger and Squak Mt. and nails my neighborhood.
Not much I can do about it other than have lots of gas/propane for the generator and sleep downstairs.

Low center could be on par with a cat 4 hurricane.

This is the part that I’ve been following and find extremely interesting. I guess 1962 it was pretty low… but now?!?
Also, there’s some trees on our new house here that I kind of don’t like, and I’m thinking maybe I could go out there and kind of pre-cut them a little bit so they fall away from the house.

Check out the northern pacific satellite. Looks like a hurricane, you can watch the eye form.

Pretty amazing. The only reason it's not a hurricane is that hurricanes, by definition, must originate in the tropics.
