That's a terrible price, unless you're a computer jong and need the 24/7 tech support. FYI, as soon as you take the case off of a Dell, the warranty is void.
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

For that price get a real computer.

    PowerMac G5 2ghz Dual

Waaaaaaay better resale value too, if you want to sell it in a couple years. It'll be worth $800-$1000 as oppossed to $300-500. Unless you're a hardcore gamer you should look into Apple.

Also, other good deals on that Apple Store "Special Deals" section. Refurbs come with one year warrenty and you can buy an extended warrenty.

before you buy ANYTHING from Dell, get on to techbargians.com and find or wait for a coupon code to appear, they come up every few days.

We got a fully loaded laptop, a 600m, that is just great, using a code for $800 off $2000!!!!!!!!!!

In other words we priced the thing up to 2k using extended warranty, better hard drive, more ram, etc, and the price came to $2029, the coupon knocked it down to $1229, it's that easy.

A Mac version used to exist 10-15 years ago, but Autodesk cancelled it.

I also hate to say this, but the Mac laptops aren't so great right now for your needs. They're very well built, but the processors are way behind the curve and the battery life ain't so great compared to PCs. They're wonderful for basic computer use: web, email, etc.; but not so great for more powerful use. The Pentium M series is really good. It's the main reason Apple is switching to Intel next year. Apple even announced that the first Intel Macs will be laptops.

That said, nobody touches Apple resale value wise. They're like the Toyota of the computer world, but better. A current top of the line PC will be worthless in two years. A current top of the line G5 will be worth a ton. The same goes for the iMac and pretty much everything else.

Do yourself a favor and don't get Dell. True, they're cheap, but they're cheap for a reason.

I second the Mac idea (if you have the money).

Sager sells the same boxes, made by the same Taiwanese OEM, for about $1000 less. Only difference is the lack of translucent green plastic.

I ended up using the coupon and eduacational discount to get a better computer at a killer deal.. thanks for the help guys. I like MAC's, but running Auto CAD was one of my sole requirements so that threw them out.
