    Crescent Wrench Thread

There was a thread about precision wrenches awhile back, with one brand getting most of the kudos. Anyone remember that?

Maybe knipex? It's not a crescent, but they can be as good or better.

That may be it, though I thought it was wrenches.

Scientists now have decisive molecular evidence that humans and chimpanzees once had a common momma and that this lineage had previously split from monkeys.

Knipex are the bomb. Never use the crescents any more. Goodbye to rounding off nuts

Are we talking adjustable wrenches or water pump pliers (slip joint pliers like those made by Channel Lock)?
I've been very happy with Snap-On adjustable wrenches, I've been using and abusing mine for well over 30 years and they're as tight and adjust as freely as they did when new. I bought them when I worked in a shop with a no adjustable wrench rule, After I bought them even the shop owner had a set of three. With slip joint pliers I've been just as happy with models made by Channel Lock as I have been with the Snap-On version, most if not all of my big pliers are Channel Lock. As a side note, The only Vice Grip style plier worth a damn are real Vice Grips, I only buy Vice Grips but somehow I have a never ending supply of crappy ones made by Great Neck, Craftsman, and others that have rusted screws, broken springs, and worn out teeth.

i guess theyre useful if you cant look at a hex head and guess within +- one size. if you rounded a nut its because you used the wrong tool to begin with, or it was going to be cut off from the start.

I'm not really a fan of adjustable wrenches but find them useful running/working on old farm equipment, who knows what's been changed in the last 100 years that may need a quick tightening, I'll have a full set of tools in the truck but I can carry one wrench in my pocket. I come across lots of set screws with 3/8" and 7/16" square heads, They're never the true size anymore and the bigger jaws and longer handle make breaking them free a little easier.

An old crescent wrench is the perfect tool for popping off an old ski pole basket.

They offer compound grip pressure w/ smooth parallel jaw, also relatively narrow profile jaws. My 7" pair will squish a penny.

    Great tool w/ many uses
