The bindings are mounted at boot center using a jig. They always look to be a bit far back, though. So I compared a friend's 168 R:EX to a different friend's 170 K2s. The Atomics DO have a mount that's pretty far back. So when I was home, I measured the running surface of my R:EX, found the midpoint, and turns out, the center of the running surface is almost two inches in front of the ball of my foot.
That is, I'm two inches back. That's a lot.
Yeah, I know, only tele skiers mount ball of foot on running surface center. But still. Why does Atomic have such a rearward boot-center mark? Do they ski better mounted farther forward?
Edit: I just did the same thing my on Dynafitted Miras, which I mounted at boot center as well. The ball of foot on center of running surface is about .75 inch in front of my mount. Hmm...
Mine skied pretty good on center. decent pow float. good carving.
One thing I did note when I mounted the freerides was that the mark in the graphics of one ski was off by almost 1cm from the other ski.
For all around, including pow, the boot center was fine.
I guess if you dont get pow, you could nudge them forward.
I never thought about moving them back, that's fer sure.
