yeah
this information is very helpful
as usual
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
PSA: huge pile of shifts at Great Northern Cycle & Ski in Whitefish for $150 in many different colors/brake widths.
I don't know if they would ship and I'm leaving town so I can't proxy, but it is a hell of a deal for anyone shift-curious.
I have them set up according to the unofficial guide on new schoolers and they have been solid in the backcountry and the resort. Din is set to type 3. I blew out of my kingpins a bunch of times at type 3 + 2.
Trying to figure out a fix for the toe clamps not staying clamped when touring. Someone in here answered it a while back but I can't find their answer. I think it involved a warrant part or something. Anyone?

On hiatus, but wanted to close the loop as I was initially happy with Shift 2, and I know good humans rely on this info somewhat. Day 5 and both AFDs dropped…skiing a mellow groomer with the wife. 4 more days than it took on Shift 1. Improvement…I’m 195#.
Not gonna bother adjusting it, I’m over it. Now WTF do I put on my slack ski. YMMV. Peace.
Edit to add: I was skiing at slow to moderate speeds with the wife, on a VWK, en route to the skin track, was bored, so ripped off two tight GS turns. First one I felt like the shovel was soft, second one I almost went out the front door. No pre-releases. The new AFD is stronger, but WTF. I’d say if I only skied off edge and didn’t huck meat, these would be fine. My wife, at 135#, has a pair, and doubt she’ll have issues, as other than one pre-release, the Shift 1 served her well. For bigger dudes, or if you do huck meat and can bend a ski, pack a tool and be prepared to adjust your bindings regularly. The worst part is my VWK is now swiss cheesed, and two of the mounts are from shifts that were flawed, haha. First one’s on Salomon, second is on me. Small shit grand scheme. Plan to warranty via shop tomorrow morning. Cheers.

Shift 1, got some new din windows with some little bumps on em because tour lever locks wouldn't stay up. Had to file em down a little to get them to work. Then they worked fine. 3 days of a hut trip, mostly skinning, held up and worked great. I've had them since they came out 4 or 5 years ago. Wife has too. She has had zero problems, and she has skied them on some Icelandic's for 4 years almost exclusively inbounds. I've never prereleased but I rarely ski them inbounds. I have other skis for that.
My wife is on a new pair of V1 shifts (updated DIN windows with the nubs) and has a REALLY hard time getting the toe levers up both clicks when getting ready to skin. Most of the time I have to bend down and lift them up for her. Did you file down the bumps a bit to get them to come up easier?

I can't think of where to post this, I now the BAM Pindung was mentioned a while back in this thread. There's a live one out there! Any euro mags feel like doing it for science? Ski is too short for me:

Shift binding pre-released for no good reason causing serious long term injury despite being set up in accordance with the technical manual. Projected out as skis de-cambered at the end of a smooth. turn as upped pace.. Never experienced anything like that during hundreds of days on various alpine bindings. I appreciate plenty of people have used the shift binding with out problem but there is also lots of reports of pre-releases. Also had problems with the complete brake piece of the rear binding falling off a couple of times, brakes releasing in walk mode and stiff toe piece lever. I also know other skiers, professional instructors, guides and technicians who really do not like the shifts. They are a great concept but I can no longer trust or recommend this binding due to the potential risk of pre-releases causing serious injury on top of the other issues Does the shift 2 solve these issues? What will be the comparative safety of the ATK Hy? Or just go for heavier Duke PT or Cast system or just lose touring option and go for something like look pivot or the strive? There is always an element of risk with skiing but if return to skiing after injury can't risk being projected out of binding for no good reason. Safe alternatives to the Shift 1 appreciated as I cannot trust it anymore.
