Just got back from the annual UK trade show were Salomon confirmed that the Shift is unchanged in spec/price for 19/20 and that a lower din version will not be available in 19/20.

Mounted my shifts to the Bibby on Saturday. Here’s what the clearance looks like

These are the 110mm brake width. The Bibby in this length (184) is 116mm underfoot. Perfect fit, no bending required.

ps: shoutout to ian at skinet in LA for the mount, did a better job than I ever would have. He was able to dodge the pivot conflicts and get the mount to within .5cm of my desired spot. Amazing job.

    Boot compatibility

Are the shift compatible with Dynafit Radical boots? I saw that there seems to be a safety issue depending on the shape of the pinhole in the boot.

    Thanks,

That depends - What is the shape of your pinhole?

And is it red? Red is definitely fastest.

Anyone run pivots and these in their quiver? I’ve been skiing pivot 18s set to 10 for quite a while now. Never had a release that I can remember or walked out of them. I’ve got my shifts set to 11 and have walked out twice and ejected during landings or in compressions 3 times. I guess I should bump the heels to 12, just haven’t skied there for a while and it makes me nervous. Anyone else have to run a higher setting with these?

Check the forward pressure. I run the same dins as my alpine bindings with no issues.

    Set to 9 - 200# 6’

Walked out of one today for the first time. Granted didn’t initiate the turn as graceful as I could but was in tight - steep trees and needed the tails to release stat. Anyways turning up to 11 [emoji869]

    My forward pressure is dialed

After 8 days of skiing in and out of bounds I noticed that there is a slight movement between forward part of binding’s toe (the part that is screwed by three bolts) and ski. Movement appears only when boot isn’t attached to ski. Is this normal or I should remount bindings? Unfourtanely I can’t go to the same shop where initial mount was made.

Given that the Pivot heel has about 3x the elasticity than the STH/Shift heel (28mm vs 9mm), that doesn't sound shocking.

Great first true touring day in the Shifts yesterday. All together we ascended somewhere around 5000 or 6000 feet in the Tahoe backcountry. No break releases. Easy switches in and out of the risers. Amazing downhill performance (obviously), especially on some sketchy wind-blown sections during our run out.

Crazy question here: anyone know where the front screw/locating bobbin can be sourced for a pair that's missing one? Contacting salomon seems next to impossible and it's kind of an urgent situation. Asking for a friend...

Any authorized Salomon dealer should be able to hook it up, but I don’t know what a reasonable time frame is

My shifts release in walk mode at the toe quite frequently after only 3 days on them, and then the Toe bar? won't lock up sometimes. Lost a ski in a critical area yesterday, and then today they kept coming off. Maybe it was ice buildup in the pinholes but I think It's a design problem and so does the shop. Anyone else experience this issue?

It does require both hands, and that is annoying, but I guess you could do it in the car / before you leave home too if you have enough foresight.
Pole strap will pull up binders too...

That's what I was worried about, I'm close to 4000km from the nearest one.

Really appreciate it, but I'm in Western Australia (yup) and will be in northern BC in just over a week so I don't think I'd get it in time. I'm trying the shops up there as well and hopefully get a solution. I also have a day in Vancouver so I'll see what I can find there.

That might be really handy, I'll wait to hear back from MEC and a couple of other shops I tried. Also in a shock twist... that friend is me

Edit: since when did we get the same avatar?

You should be able to find one in Vancouver. I'm sure someone here can help you out. Or maybe have Addict mail it to where your are staying now if he can find one. Maybe try a post on gear swap and see if anyone can help out. A lot of shop techs here, someone has to have access

Almost identical experience with me. All my other bindings are pivots run at 9. I can nose butter the shit out of them. Set at the same din, I double ejected on a 2ft air within the first 5 turns I made on my shifts. I had forward pressure checked at evo. I have a day on them at din 10 and everything seemed fine, but I wouldn't say I'm particularly confident. The bindings sometimes make a cracking noise in the toe on bumps. I know I'm comparing a touring binding to a pivot, but still

You want part number L4075110001 which is for a pair of toe studs inc the mounting screws. In typical ski industry fashion Salomon/Atomic have not had any spares available since the Shift was launched so anyone who lost a stud had to rely on the kindness of a retailer to give them one from a stock binding - which wouldn't usually be a problem but the retailers are selling the bindings like hot cakes and they don't want to be left with a stud'less set they can't sell until the spares become available. Thankfully the spares should be available soon as they're due in to their warehouse on the 8th Feb so retailers who have ordered them will get them around the 13th/14th Feb - so hopefully that's close enough to encourage a retailer to give up one of theirs as it can be replaced pretty quickly.

Yeah I had this issue with my Shifts on my last tour with them (also only my 3rd day on them). You're talking about the lock out mechanism on the toe when touring correct? Mine wouldn't stay locked no matter what I did... just kept popping back down. Frustrating for sure. I assumed it was an icing issue. I checked them out at home and couldn't recreate the problem... will report back if it continues
