from snoqulamie down to the Tunnel entrance (west side)

Question Seattle area snoqulamie mags, has anyone skied from the summit west down the clear cut to the west entrance of the tunnel? I've bike the tunnel a few times and keep looking at the terrain above it. It might be one of those areas where once it gets snow it would become pretty mellow but it looks like with a quick skin from the silver fir chain you could ski 1000 feet down and hike out to I-90 and either pre-arrange a pick up or do some hitch hiking.

heres a pic looking up at the west side

Yup. Many years ago (um.. like 30+) I skied the old power line off Ski Acres towards Rockdale. It takes a healthy low elevation snow pack that has become increasingly rare. This was way back before cell phones, so we left a car on the side of the freeway.

as mofro said, we dont get a lot of prolonged 1500' snow level storms to build enough base of the bottom half but pretty sure it got hit recently, around the time kooks skied mt si (what was that two years ago???) check TAY

Also, leaving a car or even stopping to pick up skiers on the side of I-90 is frowned upon by the WSP these days.

Frowned upon? Sure. Illegal? No. I wouldn't park a car there at risk of it being towed, but I think you could coordinate a pick-up.

As long as you kept skier's right of the west side tunnel exit and out of the creek, you could make it to I-90. This would be your extraction point: https://goo.gl/maps/hBqx1EPriDK2

YSK that the gully above the tunnel exit is a slide path and is (in)frequently bombed by WSDOT via their tram line that runs through that area.

The land that does access that line is privately owned and posted FWIW.

Good advice I'll plan on keeping this one on the radar and see if conditions align. I've had visions of dropping off the top of that tunnel I can't shake. I can probably do some shovel work and build a landing

You can certainly get to the train tunnel in the winter if you wanted to build a ramp. You'd just have to do it from Tinkham road and then up the track, from the Annette lake TH. Maybe a mile and a bit.

There wasn't a gate at the turn out when we did it early 80's and I'm pretty sure it was plowed so we weren't actually parked on the freeway. Went with my dad and a couple of his instructor buddies and my older brother. I was probably 12-13.

I always wanted to air it out over the freeway, but then they tore down the snow shed and doubled the distance and dashed that dream.
