Well, thanks partly to all the gushing in this thread, I just picked up my first pair of Dynastars since my 8th grade vertical comps (which ripped for twister-spread-twisters).
And the first skis I've bought in 10 years that weren't made by a US-based indy company. Guess I can stop asking people about mounting a jeffrey -2.
Stoked! Finish quality is excellent. Been a while since I saw metal shavings in the mount mess - thinking those metal shavings will pair well with the extra 10 lbs I put on this year.

Welcome to the club!
Things were a little firm at Schweitzer this weekend but not the ice rink I was expecting. However, on-piste was the only option so I took out the M-Pro 99's both Friday and Saturday and worked them. I've been a little unsure about these skis as they're a longer radius ski than my x96 and, in chopped crud, they seem to have more tip deflection than the x96. I wasn't sure I really liked them as well.
Now, after this weekend, I think they're the tool for groomers. Even at 99mm, they can really rail. They're really solid when worked and at speed. I really feel confident on them at any speed and they arc really nicely. I still like my x96 for crud conditions but that wasn't an option, except for Sunday with about 3" of new. And my x106 are the tool for deeper snow, for sure. I love those things, too!
It's taken me a few days to get used to the 99's and to find the right purpose for them but I think I've got it figured out, now. Nice to have a broad quiver.
What's your BSL?

Thanks but, I'm good with the x106 for deep snow. I like them on shallower snow, too but the x96 is my default for those conditions. I'm not in for a wider ski at this point.
Back to the woodsman vs m free 108 topic. I bought the woodsman 108 186 er whatever last year, mounted them 2.5 cm back from recommended, which others in the on3p thread hated on, and they skied pretty good. Probably 100 days last year and this one. They are absolutely indestructible. But do take alot of input from me to ski every day in bumps and choppy pow at bridger. A great early season ski, but not that fun every day. Like a hot chick that just stares at her phone on a date, it takes effort to make it work.
My girlfriend came home from the shop w a pair of 172 m frees 108. As soon as I saw them, I was stoked. They have the rocker, the camber, and the side cut- at least visually to make them an awesome ski. Bought the 192s. I'm 5'10" 190lbs. Anyone mount at a -1 or -2 from recommended? Another bro who got them and mounted -1 wanted a little less tail, but that guy is traditional as fuck, always in the front of the boot, etc.
If it makes a difference, my favorite ski of all time is the line supernatural 115 in 186 and 192 mounted on rec or -1....
What u guys think?

Fall Line Will Set You Free
I mounted on the line and initially thought there was too much tail. Now I wouldn't change it. I could see - 1 and it still working well.
I could see -1 or -2 but even me who normally likes traditional skis with traditional mounts likes them on the line. YMMV
Mine are on the line but could see maybe going back -1. Just had this discussion with another member. I have no issue skiing traditional or progressive so there’s that.
My skiing "style" is traditional AF. I mounted my 192s on the line but if I had to do it again I'd probably go -1 from recommended.
Any more info on the mfree 118? I posted something similar in the Rossi Black Ops thread, thinking that could be the ski and was recommended the mfree 118. My DD is the Jeffery 108. Love it. Looking for a more pow oriented version of it with more crud busting ability. I was thinking billy goat but I've read that it's not as playful, was thinking Jeff116 but read that it's not as much of a crud buster. Maybe the mfree118 is what I'm looking for?
I think I've seen conflicting info, is the m-free 118 the same as the menace proto 118?

I've refrained from replying since I was the one pointing you in that direction but the other dynastar fanboys aren't talking.
The m-free 118 and 19/20 proto should be the same construction. The one from 18/19 should be a bit burlier.
The camber profile and till splay on the proto make it a pretty reliable crud crusher at 189cm - it transitions and slices nicely more than I think it would with more tip splay. It's also surprisingly agile and surfy if you want it to be, but it requires a good amount of input. Navigating trees is a hoot. Dropping airs is a hoot. Only caveat is that it's a bit of a wild beast; don't ski it backseat. It'll also punish you a bit on mistakes.
Shameless link to my review last year: https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...Dynastar-Proto
It’s close but it doesn’t look like it will work.
My very limited two cents. Mount them on the line or just barely behind it. I am guessing these aren’t your deep pow ski, but your everyday BB ski, so you’re not looking to absolutely maximize float. It leaves a decent amount of tail but that tail is fairly rockered, so moving it too far back leaves little tail in contact with firm snow.
The Mfree 108’s in a 192 are just a touch longer than my 189 Billygoats, and the mount point looks to be maybe +1 to +1.5cm relatively speaking, with less tip splay and a relatively fatter tip.
Great review. The large amount of camber and smaller tip splay worries me a little for tight trees, wondering if they'll be hooky but if the longest length is a (short) 189 then maybe that'll be nice in the trees. Also a little worried about the backseat part, I will admit that at the end of a long day I get a little lazy and can get back seat but the better solution would be a better skier.
Lots of good skis in this category, Mfree118, wildcat, Jeff116, Billy Goat, GPO. I haven't been on a lot of skis, my reference points are MVP (didn't like), Rocker2 108 (really liked), Protest (really liked), Jeff108 (loved). So I'll do a bunch more reading/researching and hopefully snag a deal along the way.
Once again, excellent review, very helpful.
I was going to wait until I had more then the 2 days on my Factory Protos before chiming in with opinion.
Stiff, hell yes, but in a good way for someone that knows how to bend a ski. I've only made a few turns in the conditions that these are made for and those were good. Chopped up crud seem to be good as well. Surprised at how good they carve on the groomer as you make your way back to the lift. The only time that they have thrown me for a loop was in variable conditions. Chalk and windblown to icy crust, but tough conditions on an unfamiliar ski.
I'm try to ski them in everyday conditions just to get them broken in. Another 3 to 5 days and I should know better. But, so far very good.
