How is the size on the new R3 compare to FT? Need to change boots for this season. Have 26,5 on my FT.

I would say similar foot length, slightly more last, taller cuff.

Also, shell on the R3 is made from Nylon, compared to the PU on the FT stuff, so it wont hold up as well long term.

Lateral midfoot fit was very odd for me compared to the ft. Bindings were an issue because of the sillyness with the FT non-standard bsls. Ultimately I went with the Cochise and very much miss the linear flex.

Generally fit was more similar to the dalbello downhill booth with pins than the FT ime.

Loving these so much but I was pulling my liner out to dry yesterday and the tongue popped right off. The little tab that connects them to the boot has busted. Reached out to Roxa. If no warranty any thoughts on repairing?

Yeah could heat it up and kind of get it slipped back into place with a little force, and then maybe plastic weld some extra support once its in. It's definitely only there to hold the tongue to the pivot clip.

Id actually try to replicate what's on the lupo, way easier to take the tongue off/on the boot using that method.

Maybe use a thumbscrew and a rivnut?

^^^ already tried the heat gun, got it back in but when I went to put the boots on the same thing happen, I think its pooched (the plastic bit). Was thinking of a thumb screw/riv nut. See what if anything warrant says.

I was compare the original insole to my custom made from my 25,5 mondo pointed boot. It was 1,9 mm different so they are not big in size…

I just bought a new pair of these from LP gearx for $509 all in. What a great boot. It’s really light for how stiff and damp they are. I don’t miss the top buckle and once I put the TT Strapoff adapter on they’ll be perfect. I’m coming from a Lupo 130c and these don’t give up much in stiffness but they have a damper feel, surprising since they are 1.5# less per boot.

I haven’t molded them yet and the pre punched shell is very close fitting but comfy.

So…I managed to pop the tongue plate off.
Unlike el hefe’s, it’s not broken…so i got that going for me, which is nice.
But how the hell do I get the metal pins from the tongue back in the holes on the top of the shell toe box?

[edit 2] hmmm, unlike that vid, i had to use pliers to get mine back on with the boot off — that’s not auspicious…and def not a usable “feature” in the cold if that’s how the tongue is removed for skinning

With the tongue out, you now have the lovely task of putting it back into place. So now that you’re at the top of your ascent where its cold, windy, and snowing - you can now pull out the tongues from your back, take off your gloves and try to fit those stupid wires into those tiny tiny holes… getting the picture I’m painting here?

It’s a complete pain in the ass

While I think that everything on the R3 screams high quality, I think transitions and in particular, removal / reinstallation of tongues is a major design oversight on the Roxa Team, and really degrades a potentially great boot. Furthermore, the shell is made from Grilamid, which does have a tendency to wear more than other plastics used in boots - so the more you’re taking the tongues out, the more likely you are to ovalize/destroy this feature on your boots.

Alright yall tell me why you like the strap off for this boot? With the tongue in, the touring ROM is limited (and as documented a few posts up taking it off is a huge PIA), and it’s not the top strap that’s the limiting factor. So what does the strap off do you for here? Plus having that strap undone and dangling around sounds annoying. What am I missing?

If you’re strap is dangling in walk mode you’re doing it wrong. With the adapter you don’t have to adjust the strap every time you put your boots on. In walk mode you can decouple the strap from the buckle lever and it stays in place on the cuff flap and increases range of motion. It’s really quite nice and ingenious

enlighten me...if the velcro+strapoff is unclipped and separated from the buckle, how in the hell is it not dangling? There is no longer any sort of tension or force holding it...anywhere?

The strap is routed through a slot in the end of the cuff flap. Normally it goes through the loop on the buckle and you cinch it tight. The Strap Off has a loop that the strap loops through and then it has a hook that engages the buckle loop. It doesn’t dangle at all when decoupled from the buckle. Theoretically you never need to adjust or undo the Velcro again with the Strap Off adapter.
