Checked udotavy Twitter at 330am...no news..back to sleep. Wake up 6am. Closure. Twitter says closure 3am to 8am. They posted it at 4am. That's bullshit. Enjoy those that got up. I'm not fighting that shitshow now. Would've to beat it if their system was even 10% efficient. #assholes

Sluffing 6" down into the new snow.
Pretty good bond to the old snow surface.

If udot says that's where they will notify people what are you supposed to do? The text messages worked. They pulled the service. Has nothing to do with rookie.

You can subscribe to the twitter texts. Don't even have to have a twitter account. Might even be instructions on their site.

Didn't feel like joining the LCC conga line this morning. Left my house at 715 and pulled into soli at 820. Skiing great!

On the contrary, my buddy has only moved about a mile in the four and a half hours he's been sitting in line for LCC.

I did...months ago...never got shit...it's just a broken system now that direct texts are gone. I get it. It was a money thing, but it's a pain now.

What did they change? I got a text about the closing today but it was at either 445 or 545. I think? Not sure about time zone conversion right now

Used to be a direct text system..sms now it's a hack tied to Twitter and not as reliable. I rarely even think about beating the closure, but today I would've. I'm just bitter and jealous. Enjoy everyone. Not like I never skied an Alta pow day. I'll get some tomorrow hopefully.

So what’s the call for tomorrow? Is there still a lot of terrain closed at Alta? Did solitude open honeycomb?

Skied Milly @ Brighton for about 4 hours today. Got up to mouth of BCC at around 7:10. Had over an hour to spare. Skiing was absolutely fantastic. Fresh lines all morning. I was hesitant to go into Milly bowl as I have had 0 runs in there so far this season. Stuck with what I knew: Evergreen, under the lift, devil's elbow, etc. Best day of the year for me. Celebrated with some PIE pizza, hmmmmm

According to the Alta site. Updated at 2pm. Nothing that is a "gate" opened today ( backside, ballroom/shoulder, Catherine's, etc). No promise they'll open tomorrow either, but I think I'll take a bet they will. I will be headed up, least for a few hours.

Does anyone own or have experience with Find-Me Powder Leases (made in Germany), http://www.find---me.com/info-uk ?

I am an exclusively back-country skier who uses Dynafit TLT Speed Radical bindings without brakes and with a Dynafit Guide leash (only about 12" long when stretched). I used to ski on Dynafits with brakes but switched to a brakeless binding to save weight and because I read a number of comments about brakes versus no brakes for back-country that convinced me to go without brakes. I have not had any serious problems with them -- yet. But, I am having some second thoughts and I have had a frustrating time or two with an accidental release on an up track when my boot sank in the snow and I had a hell of a time releasing the leash so I could get my ski back on. I also worry about falling with my skis hung up in tree branches or whatever and having difficulty detaching the leash. I can also imagine problems if I'm washed down the hill in an avalanche or even a sizable stuff. A good friend who has a similar binding set up with leashes fell nearly upside down into a tree well on Tom's Hill this week when no one else was around, almost couldn't free himself after struggling for an hour, and finally freed one ski but had to unbuckle and remove his boot to get free of the 2nd ski. His main problem was getting out of the toe bindings that were locked in climb mode, but the leashes added additional difficulty. In his exhausted and frightened state he actually thought he might die.

When searching the Internet I found the German Find-Me leashes which look pretty good. Does anyone have any advice? If not, what about other leashes? Note there are 2 kinds of "powder cords" that I found: "powder leashes" that attach the skier to his/her skis often with a breakaway feature, and "powder cords" that attach to the skier or to the ski (but, not both) for leaving a line that leads to a buried skier or ski. I am interested in the "leash".

Hmmm, that's strange. I can't imagine why ski resorts wouldn't open gates to the side-country on such a "safe" day in the s-c or b-c!
