Queens and Crystal City. Dirt pimp telephones already ringing off the hook.

Be interesting to see if it has any effect on real estate this far away from Crystal City (~25 mi.). My guess is maybe a bit of a ripple effect but who knows.

Did anyone see this NOT going to the NYC and/or DC area?
I feel like they were just playing games with people when the obvious move would be to have something in the NE to cover both coasts. I suppose there was a chance it could have been Phili, Boston, or Atlanta, but come on...

The only thing kinda surprising is that they picked both.
    No longer stuck.

Seems to me the nationwide search was just a way to shake down NYC and NVA for some better tax breaks. Welcome to torn up streets, insane construction costs and new levels of shitty traffic.

That's EXACTLY what it was. It was hilarious though seeing cities nationwide bend over backwards, begging Bezos to bring HQ2 to their towns. Really exposed all of them for being the cronies that they are.

Not many restaurant options in Long Island City, or things to do. I've had work there a few times. That place is going to transform quickly.

I've lived outside DC for a long time but I'm from Boston and have a place up near there that I'm trying to move to but it's turning out to be a long complicated process. Tipp lives about maybe 12 or so miles from here, maybe a little more.

It's actually gone crazy in the last 5 years. Adding roughly 20k residents. Median home value up around 1mil and avg age between 20-44 bachelor's degree or higher. The Amazon hq will surely speed things up even more.

What still surprised me was the avg income out of the 2 hqs 150k avg. 50k jobs between the 2. Roughly 7.5billion in salary alone. Lots of chiefs, not too many Indians.

Now that Amazon gave these cities half the HQ that was promised, does that mean the cities can give Amazon half the tax breaks?

Im more interested in the impact it will make on the multi-family housing market.

Ernst and Young also announced 600 jobs coming to town.

Jeff Bezos may be the richest guy in the world, but he sure is strange looking. I'm not entirely sure he's not a robot.

Yes, "Cronies." You do understand how local politics and business works, right? There's a WHOLE lot more going on than just Amazon here. There's a multitude of reasons these municipalities were tripping all over each other to attract Amazon. I also find it disgusting how in doing so, they give one of the richest companies on the planet all the tax breaks possible, whilst totally screwing over the little guys at the same time. Mom and pops in the area struggling, being burdened heavily by taxes and bureaucracy. In the meanwhile, they just made things as smooth as possible to pave the way for Amazon to come in.

    Gotta love this: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...announcements/
Over 2 BILLION dollars in tax breaks from New York and Virginia.
How are the local taxpayers standing for this?

I think the mom and pops should figure out how to get some of that $7,500,000,000 in salary into their registers.

    Bezos is defiantly a robot.
