I thought Rogue One was formula CGI. A bunch of scenes rather than any real story. The beginning of LJ was tedious again with all the CGI but I liked the story most of the time. Benicio Del Toro was good and the new young villain was decent. I thought the Jedi woman carried the roll pretty well. The African American character was forgettable as was the Asian woman. All these global movies make sure every ethnic group is well represented.

Yup. No risk. Cover it all, cash in on it all.

I heard a rumor that Harrison Ford showed up at our local (tiny) theatre and ripped tickets on opening night.
    If so, that's kinda cool.
I bet he was good and baked.

Of course Rogue One was dark... we knew that nobody survives that mission since the first SW movie. It's also a stand-alone film.

I liked Last Jedi, but I liked The Force Awakens too. This triad is shaping up far better than the 3 Anakin movies. I have some quibbles with plot holes or stupid science impossibilities, but goddammit we are talking about a world (Galaxy?) where laser swords stop after 3 feet and bolts of light visibly propagate. That said -- really? No programmable autopilot? Thought the scene with the burning tree was funny and awesome. Also think that Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) is a damn good actor.

Saw it in 3D, but only because that time slot and location worked best for us. Didn't notice anything that wouldn't have been just fine in 2D.

Super stoked on the Han Solo back story. Hoping for a good performance from Alden Ehrenreich, someone I'm not familiar with. Also cool that Larry Kasdan (wrote Empire Strikes Back) and his son did the screenplay.

I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

I was there at the 8pm showing. No Han Solo that I saw. Might have been at another showing.

My niece and B-I-L didn’t like it, and said that Mark Hamill was the worst actor ever.
    I think they’re assholes.

Thought it was ok. Far from mind blowing, but certainly a lot better than the prequels.

    **Spoilers**

While I have a bunch of gripes, my biggest one was the ~30 minutes of the movie that involved 2 characters flying to the gambling planet to find a hacker. That entire subplot had literally no bearing on the outcome of the movie. They went there, did some stuff, ran around a bunch, and none of that mattered in grand scheme of the plot. It introduced us to Benicio, but then we never seem him again. I'm he'll pop back up in future movies, but it felt unnecessarily open ended in this movie. Mostly that whole segment just seems like sloppy story telling.

Just got back from the 3D version. Thought it was great. Couple of edibles helped enhance the 3D. 7 thumbs up.

I think the next episode will make that scene relevant. From the entire arc of star wars, it has always been good vs. evil, plain and simple. Now they've introduced the intergalactic military industrial complex and war profiteers selling weapons to both sides. I don't think that was sloppy at all, because with snoke gone, there isn't much plot remaining for ep 9 other than to bring down Ren and the first order with... what did they have at the end? 2 dozen people and the Falcon? That's bad for business.

And the books and the kid on that gambling planet that's "force sensitive" and all the other kids like him.

Good story telling would mean the scene was relevant to the momentary story, and also relevant to the broader story. Sloppy storytelling is what we got - a weird, disconnected sequence. We can all assume that it'll come back in ep. 9, but they could have achieved that same introduction in a far more relevant and coherent way.

I completely agree but the dispersement of race and ethnicity is too obvious.

Let's just agree that you won't ever be happy. Original trilogy was all white people, 1 woman with lines (plus a moment for Mon Mothma). Prequils were straight up racist alien stereotypes. Now you're upset about integration feeling obvious. FFS.

Not really. I thought Billy Dee Williams was pretty great.

For example, the Mission Impossible movies have the same actor profiles. It's just the obvious formula.

I must be an old skool star wars nerd because I was not impressed. Even The Force Awakens retread was better. Last Jedi had some unexpected twists, but not good ones.

The movie is long enough it could be edited down to create a good star wars movie. Getting rid of Canto Byte, Holding for Hux and Luke milking the sea cow would be a good start.

Once it comes out on DVD I predict hard core nerds will re-edit it and have a competition for whose edit is the best.

I thought when Mark Hamill was first shown in this one his attitude was so "fuck this shit" that it showed through like he was making fun of the movie. It wasn't as relevant as the movie went on and his acting seemed to get better throughout the movie.

They also dabbled on scenes too long and really drew out the movie. Coulda shortened scenes while getting the same effect. Also Woulda liked the action to slow scene ratio a bit greater.

They also killed snoke too damn easily. Though I do like the tension between Rey and kylo. And which side they will choose

Yeah. I walked away feeling like it was a great two hour movie, but unfortunately it was 2.5.

I finally got around to see it today. Even the edibles couldn’t save this re-hash. How many times can I see tie-fighters chase a rebel ship through a canyon? How many times can I see the same “I know there is light within you “ dialogue? It felt like the entire movie was just cut and paste scenes from the first 7 episodes.

I can say the movie is good and not the best Star Wars film.

I don't know, I kind of liked it. The nature is beautiful and the actors are great.

came out on dvd last tuesday at red box. I'm not that into it, so missed it on the big screen. Funny, on easter sunday The Empire Strikes Back was on tv, so watched a bunch of it between the Red Sox game .it brought back memories from seeing it in high school, 1980. Then popped in the DVD. pretty decent but I'm not a star trek nerd. Cool to see how much they've all aged. I guess there's one more in the works.
Bacon tastes good. Pork chops taste goood.
