Las Vegas shooting thread moved to polyass

Weak fucking sauce. People are too chicken shit to talk about things that need to be talked about because it makes people uncomfortable? What the fuck.
So it gets moved where most people don't go because it is inhabited by trolls of both sides.
    Weak weak weak.
    Bullshit.

Bullshit. In all reality it never really got that bad in the thread. Not to mention I never saw anyone really complain about it being in PR

Agreed. People were having a thoughtful and engaging discussion about an issue which should make us all uncomfortable.

Bullshit. So fucking tired of the perpetual nothingburger that comes out of every single mass shooting. Let the imbeciles who can't comprehend basic statistics do so here in the PR in full purview of their peers and then let he the historical record record judge them for the fucktards that they are. Not wanting restrictions on your preferred playthings does not adequately counterbalance the potential carnage when said playthings are put to their primary purpose.

We are on track to have 1000 less violent gun deaths this year. About 10 less per day. Over last year.

    Just some stats for you.

Oh, and that plaything quote, can go for other things as well. Probably some things you enjoy.

These arguments I see you post in here seem to miss the point.

Just because we are on track to have 1000 less violent gun deaths this year (citation needed ?) does not make the current state of affairs acceptable.

Nevermind that your arguments in the other thread about car crashes and cigarette smoking were an absurd mixture of whataboutism and false equivalence.

Violence, Gun Violence, and Violent Gun Deaths have been dropping steadily since the lat 80s.

The ultra rare fringe of those deaths, Mass shootings, make up 2% of total violent gun deaths.

Your answer is to call people names, and question their morals, if we don't make knee jerk reactions to mass shootings. WHICH IS WHAT THE SHOOTER INTENDS TO HAPPEN.

In the face of data, that suggests the issue is getting better. 30 years of data.

But yeah. You do you. And the rest of us will continue along, as the US becomes a safer place to live.

I guess we will bounce back and forth between threads.

You do not have a response, at this point.

    That much is clear.

Yeah enough of the name calling. The discussion needs to happen and needs to be ongoing. Yes, beer drinker is right, gun deaths are down statistically over the years (but currently rising for the second year in a row). So yes, America is safer than it used to be. But the level of gun violence and suicide is insane. The country is awash in guns, and they all enter the public sphere legally at some stage. If you are OK with the trade off of 30000 gun deaths a year, in exchange for no regulation of guns, admit it. Don't raise false arguments. But if you are not OK with it, that means some things need to change, and it probably means that it needs to be more difficult to get a gun. Whether through really high taxes, or very strict regulation. Saying that something can't be done is a lie.

No one is ever "ok" with mass slaughter, and it's wrong to assume that.

Throw some math at these numbers, and you get what I came up with. http://www.gunviolencearchive.org/

Saying that guns are unregulated isn't true.

I feel bad for the 22,000 that kill themselves with a firearm (handgun), but that is not part of the issue we are talking about. That is not someone taking another persons life with a gun.

It's not rising, its going down. By about 10 deaths per day. That's 2017. In the link I posted.

Fact: More guns are present in the US, than ever before.

    Fact: Violent crime has dropped.

    Here's an interesting article:
    http://theweek.com/articles/728279/a...icans-congress

    where:

But the daily parade of dead bodies from gun violence produces no new laws to address the problem. The reason is simple: One of our two great parties, the one that happens to control Congress and most state legislatures at the moment, is categorically opposed to any law that might restrict gun rights in any way.

And that includes measures that have the support of most Americans — in some cases, virtually all Americans, including the overwhelming majority of Republican voters and even gun owners. Universal background checks, for instance, are supported in polls by 90 percent or more of us. No other public policy question gets that kind of near-unanimous support. You couldn't get 90 percent of Americans to agree that chocolate is tasty, but we agree on universal background checks. And yet, after 20 elementary school students were killed in Newtown, Connecticut, a bill to impose those checks failed in Congress. In the Senate, 41 of the 45 Republicans then serving mounted a successful filibuster to kill it, and it never made it to the House

Mass shootings have gone up considerably, since the Obama administration.

I'm not saying it's his fault. I am just using that as time reference.

These types of weapons have been available, way before then.

Most people are open to change, but that is never what's discussed.

Its a lot of yelling for a couple of weeks.

Listening to the radio, an interview with a conservative magazine editor, and interviews with people on the street in Las Vegas, they both said that these types of events are not able to be stopped, and the cost of taking guns away is too high. So yes, they do think this is acceptable, more acceptable than removing guns from the culture.
And the reason so many people choose guns to kill themselves is because it is effective, cheap, and easy to obtain. So yes, take guns out of the equation, and gun inflicted suicides go down

I can only imagine the intelligence in the polyass thread.
