But to offer a different perspective, a good friend of mine -- a mag who doesn't post these days -- has a severe dog allergy, he can't even really set foot in my house or car, and he described a bit of the desperate feelings it, and the allergic reaction, can cause in him (even though he loves dogs). IOW, this woman may be an entitled bitch or whatever, but she may also basically have been having a panic attack at the possibility of not being able to breathe, and not have had the capacity to be reasoned and rational.

Truthfully, without knowing a lot more details, I'm not going to pass judgment on anyone in this story. We don't know that she was asking to have the animals ejected, we don't know if she was offered to be reseated in a different part of the plane and rejected that, or what she claimed or asked. Maybe she just asked to be seated somewhere else on the plane and they said "ooh, life threatening dog allergy, GTFO".
What if this person was seated next to me on the plane? I'm probably full of dog dander.

I think that's the issue... allergens are all over and cant really be controlled. Plus people are allergic to perfumes and fragrances in soaps and lotions and all sorts of things.

If a person says I have A life threatening allergy to dogs it's completely reasonable for the airline to not want this person on the plane with dogs that they have to allow on the flight. 68 percent of Americans households also own dogs. Chances are good that this woman would be seated next to someone with doggy dander on them.

And life threatening dog allergies are rare.

Lady was most likely overreacting. And if she really did have life threatening allergies she would have the meds she needed. She would know the risks of flying and figured it out before hand..

FWIG any dog can fly in the cabin (for a extra fee usually $100) as long as it's carrier can fit under the seat.

Yup, my mom flies with her dog several times a year. No big deal. He rides in a carrier under the seat. Just pay $100 extra each way.

SWA knows how to PR. United could learn a thing or two.

Yeah, refusing to get out of an airtight metal tube containing not one, but two animals that supposedly will kill you with airborne allergens (if true) indicates a staggering amount of Darwin Award level stupid.

And with the way cops are nowadays, she might have fared better with the dogs.

As someone who deals with this shit increasingly at work I can confirm this.

And airlines have been glorified flying buses for a long time now. But that sad reality is only partly the airlines fault.

Yeah, that used to bug me but unless the dog shits in the wrong place or mouths off, I decided I don't care any more. NBD

Edit: Read the rest of the thread and yeah, I don't want a dog's ass anywhere near me, or my food, etc.

That's what driving buses has taught me. How much does it really affect me? Minimal? Then I don't give a fuck.

I have definitely been annoyed more frequently by children on flights than dogs, that's for damn sure. Of course children are much easier to trip.

Do you have to eat cactus regularly in order to have prickly crap?

    Ha Ha

I just got back from a trip to Ireland and back. 350 people on an Airbus 330. We board at JFK and the flight attendant says 'We have a passenger on board who has a peanut allergy, so could everyone refain from eating or opening anything containing nuts.'

I just laughed as I finished my peanut M&M's. I mean, really?

Other shoe dropping... maybe Danno was right. Or maybe someone is looking for a payday.

The pregnant woman who police dragged off of a Southwest Airlines flight in late September claims that the airline's account of how events transpired is inaccurate.

The passenger, Anila Daulatzai, said on Good Morning America Thursday that she never said she had life-threatening allergies and that she was a victim of racial profiling.

"In fact, I said the absolute opposite. I said it's not life-threatening at all," Daulatzai said.

Daulatzai, who is a professor at the Maryland Institute College of Art, told GMA she was traveling to Los Angeles to see her elderly father who was about to have surgery. She said when she boarded the plane she asked the flight attendant how many dogs were going to be on the flight.

According to Southwest Airlines, there were two dogs on the flight, one emotional support animal, and one pet.

Because Southwest Airlines allows passengers to choose their own seats, Daulatzai said she chose a seat away from the dogs because she has an allergy.

Daulatzai said, though, that after taking a seat flight attendants and the captain continued to ask her about the allergy.

"He started by saying, 'I'm uncomfortable with you on the plane.' I said 'I'm sorry, I'm a primary caretaker for my father, I need to be there, and I really ask you to reconsider,'" she said.

Soon after, officers from the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police came on the aircraft to escort her off, Daulatzai told Good Morning America. The incident was filmed by a fellow passenger and shared online.

"I was calmly explaining that it's not life-threatening over and over again and I even gave options that were just categorically rejected by the captain," she said.

"So for me, it was clear, a lack of conflict resolution skills with them. There's something that they just didn't trust me. I was a brown woman with a hoodie," she said.

Daulatzai was charged with disorderly conduct, failure to obey a reasonable and lawful order, disturbing the peace, obstructing and hindering the police officer, and resisting arrest.

Daulatzai claims she was subjected to racist and disparaging treatment by officers.

Daulatzai's attorney, a civil rights lawyer named Arjun S. Sethi, told GMA they plan to contest the charges.

If we didn't pass judgement on things we know nothing about why would there be an internet?
