re: sprinter. my neighbor just got a 4x4 passenger shipped from SD as none were available locally, especially nothing to be found at 55k. They get a lot of hate, but I think they are pretty awesome, although most of my trips other than destination are under 5 miles so the diesel doesn't make too much sense. Can people really get all their shit dry after skiing a pow day and sleeping in the parking lot in one of these with multiple people?

Everyone has their own 4 post boot dryer. Just a matter of running the gennie for the AC power. There may be better methods, but that's what we did when we rented the trailer at bachy. Only took a couple hours.

Door to door service from Portland to Whitefish by way of Amtrak for $134 round trip. Maybe cheaper if you can roll it in with a hotel deal. Leave PDX in the late morning, if I remember right, and arrive in time to ski the next morning.

This is awesome. Just looked up pricing for Nov 2 to see how expensive it gets if you wait until last minute. Still only $97 one-way, PDX to WFH!

Guy I ski with sometimes told me about this. Said he can pull in on the train in the morning drop off his bags at the concierge at the place he stays and then take the shuttle up and ski that day. He stays a couple of nights and then takes the night train home. Sounds like a sweet deal.

Email from skibowl says they added more lights and more parking spots. Probably going to buy my fusion pass online since it doesn't look like we'll get to use it before the price goes up.

We're headed there for a little anniversary break in Jan!

This is exciting! Due to a sudden bout of unemployment, I am looking at an abundance of time on my hands with a slight shortage of funds. I am looking to put the MHM pass exchange to the test this winter. Does anyone have a handle on the options for dirtbagging around Whitefish? Thinking specifically of good base camp for resort and touring access for blatant station waggon camping.

My two kids (ages 10 and 13) and I are planning to be at Skibowl at least every Tuesday night, plus whenever else we can sneak out. Winter days at Meadows and Spring days at TLine.

learn to race is not going to happen for the boy this season. it's $310 for 3 days but doesn't include lift tickets so it's 3 lift tickets for him, 3 for me (or fusion pass, which is $100 more than the timberline pass) and that's if mom doesn't come which is not what we're looking for. if we do anything it will be powderhounds but i may just lead him on skill building adventures like i normally do.

we'll be at timberline. the goal was 20x last season and we made it 19. this year the goal is 25. mostly weekends. given our schedules, i'll be super happy with 20.

i've always believed our season pass prices on Hood are cheap at the price for the length of season we get
it was a battle making them a part of family finances at first, but the value is there if you go

thanks. i don't know where i got $310. i agree that the season passes on hood are cheap compared to what i have read about elsewhere. unfortunately, if it weren't for that and for my birthday being in december i may never have been able to ride. it has been a difficult major life commitment as it is. things have improved for me but this is also the first year we have to pay for the boy's pass. that was one of the main reasons we did powderhounds last season because we knew we would have more costs up front this season.

he's only 7 and likes to ride long and hard and wants to be a storm skier. he will follow me anywhere i would take him. i would like for him to get competent instruction but we talk theory and technique and read books and watch technical videos about everything he does already -- capoeira, golf, swimming, skiing, basketball, track and field, soccer -- to help me not talk completely out my ass about the ones i don't know anything about.

i am what i am and it is what it is. i could probably make some other choices but i have to think about it.

i hope he can do the 4mo one when he's a little older. he's already got his mind set on being on lincoln's ski team and i didn't say a word about it.

Rad. I love weeknights at Skibowl. I'm saving up all my time off. When it's good I like to sneak out of the office at noon. Maybe we can link up for some laps on a Tuesday. Always good to meet another person from the thread.

that's pretty much where i'm at. he loves skiing and we have a blast riding together. i'm not trying to make the next bode. just my ski buddy for as long as he'll have me. i want him to be skillful and have a good foundation but i didn't start until i was almost 40 and found the thing i love most other than my family. he's way ahead of the game.

For weather, getting intimate with windy.Com is better than any long-winded prose from a human. They're all just reading what the data that's available on windy is telling them anyway. I'll probably post any interesting screenshots or even make videos when something seems exciting. Can't help on avy stuff.
