Congrats on the move, October should be prime time for everyone's least favorite MTB euphemism - "brown pow" - and Hood River is a great location to hit trails around there, Sandy Ridge southern WA, Sisters. If you don't have a bike now ... start saving for one!

"Strapping myself to a sitski built with 30lb of metal and fibreglass then trying to water ski in it sounds like a stupid idea to me.
I'll be there." ... Andy Campbell
Got some really nice turns Friday evening. Hiked to the top of Palmer in my Nikes. Lots of snow melted over the past couple of weeks.
I've been getting all stoked on the cold overnight temps and I am totally ready to ski Palmer tomorrow and then I hear my coworkers talking about how they're meeting here at 2:30 AM to drive to Timberline tomorrow for hood to coast.![]()
Sounds like they will all be parked there with their vans before I can get a parking spot. amirite?
Any of you been up there on HTC day? Race starts at 6 am. Do they even keep the uphill lane open during the race?
Maybe I should hike tomorrow night or just ride the lift Saturday. Hmmmmmm........
HTC teams have to have a way to get up there, so, yes, you should be able to access it.
There will be an announcer going all day, so it will be loud/festive. The start is staged in the main lot. The parking will be tight, but you should be able to get in ok. The starts are staggered through the day, so it's not like every van is there at once. Slower teams go early; faster teams go later in the day. They all have to reach the beach by evening Saturday.
HTC is on the road, so it has no bearing on the ski hill itself beyond traffic
Saturday will be easier, no question.
I skied today instead. Stayed nice and cold all day. Good skiing. Bottom of palmer is walk on ski on at mid way. You can ski pretty close to the bottom of the ramp. Hike down from the park looks like a long ways. Maybe 100 yards +. I did not think it was worth it so I didn't go down there. From the lift I could see rails but no jumps or boxes. You can't see much of the park from the lift so IDK. Seemed like only one group training so most of Palmer was public and everything at the end of the day. Found plenty of chunder to jib and jump on on midway laps. Full laps were worth it too.
Line just recently dropped this promo video with some great shots of Timberline and the flow park from last spring.
