Enough horrific motorcycle carnage. Here's some stoke from the last two seasons. (some may be re-runs) The incoming mega-ridge be damned!

skiing with big cuz for the first time.

tline has a killer book one bunk one deal if you book a room and stay before dec. 15 you get a second night free any time before the end of may, minus blackouts and availability of course. 3 bunk chalet with common bathroom is $165 so pretty good deal, especially for the driver. grandparents are sending us up sunday for our first ever stay and the boy plays hookie to ski on monday.

t-line lodge is great, not driving down the hill is priceless
take your suit and sit in the outdoor hot tub apres & challenge the boy to snow angels or even just hopping in the pool (its heated but doesn't necessarily feel that way)
take a board game for after dinner and sit by the fire with some hot drinks
enjoy the sunrise above the clouds if the weather's right

    apropos of skiing, snow dammit!

Sorry for the sideways pic. I'd hit up the dutchmans flat area; it offers a huge number of loops and many shorter options if the shorty starts actin-up. Have fun!

Anybody have any guesses on how Tline area (below 7000') will be tomorrow? Looks like they got rain on 26th, followed by 4", followed by 8" today... I'm thinking I'm going to sneak away in the AM and Get in a few turns; not sure if I need to switch back to rock skis.

Rock skis would be wise. Given that most areas on Hood closed because many areas pooled so badly or melted down to dirt, there's likely some sharks hiding.

I am curious as to how you find the conditions.

More from a Meadows perspective, but I would run rock skis anywhere on hood tomorrow. 4+8 looks optimistic based on tele

Thanks for the input guys; rock skis have replaced powder boards in the roof box. I'll check in and let you know how things are looking tomorrow.

Rock skis were only needed on 3 turns.... But they were very welcome on those three turns!

Made a new record: 13 laps on the best snow I could find. Consistent 6" over firm base. Snow was medium density, not concrete, not blower. Weather was typical mid-winter flat-light at sunrise, clearing to full sun by 9:15ish. Gloppy tree-bombs were dropping by 10.

i haven't bounced back completely from crashing hard twice last week. i was pretty sure i had a concussion and had to take care of some other stuff at the doctor and he diagnosed me with a concussion and whiplash as well.

i did get my burton pants (infinitely better than anything i've ever had) and the mountain shop is fixing the pro tune i got from rei that included leaving a half dozen divots from the grinder, not restructuring the base, not detuning the edges --> leading to two absurd crashes on my head -- sorry still a little pissed.

i am supposed to go to timberline for my bday on friday, but i'll see how i feel. if my board issues are resolved, i am not worried about falling because i don't fall very often. still going to timberline on sunday to stay the night, probably just take it easy with the boy.

sucks but i guess i got my early season reminder to be careful..

With Bachelor the only resort open in Oregon the skiing was wonderful. Rode some Nordica Jet Fuel 84s. $60 on Craigslist. Kind of a heavy damp ski (Metrons) not real quick edge to edge. They did have a solid edge hold at least to(estimate)40mph. I'm not very fast. Left the hill @ 1130 before the crack of nooners. The road is slick. Not really a tr.

Sorry to hear about that, man. Hope you feel 100% soon. Whiplash is a bitch. Did you take a digger on hard snow? Bad angle? Just unlucky? I got whiplash a few years ago on a crash at meadows... I was HURTIN for awhile. Enjoy your time up there this weekend, the overnight stay should be awesome!

i caught an edge twice cruising on a groomer. the first was much worse. turns out the pro tune didnt include restructuring or detuning filed edges after grinding.

i realize now that i should have gone the timberline shop for detuning after the first one because i knew or should have known that something wasn't right. i usually carry a stone and gummi in my pack but we moved and it was my first time up and i haven't found them.

i'm a hack but not that much of a hack to go down like i did normally. worst head impact on my head since my first season.

Sorry to hear about the beat downs and concussion Wyeaster. I'd be lying if I said I did not know what you were talking about...Heal up, and don't hit that head again!

Good to see conditions improving. Looks like a bit more today and this weekend prior to the death ridge\inversion hell. I'm resigned to the fact that next weekend will not be freshies, now I am just praying the death ridge goes away prior to the festive period. We always have a death ridge, hopefully this is it for the season!!!
