I generally have a bunch of Volvo engine reliability right now. Not with my current rig (ended up with a 2020 XC60 T6), but just in general. Thinking about how the 6cyl Turbo T6 shit the bed on me, and that was supposed to be the "Good" one. Now I've got the 4cly Supercharged T6, which is supposed to have almost exactly the same HP, but feels way less powerful in actually driving, AND fuel economy is almost exactly the same, AND they've already discontinued it. How many years was that? Seemed like a short run before they ditched the whole thing. Then they went with the Mild Hybrids. Same HP, but they get it from adding an anemic electric motor instead of the turbos? Or some shit like that. And dealer told me they're already talking about phasing most of these out after just a couple years. I've also heard that power availability can be super inconsistent with the Plug In hybrid.
Hoping that when I eventually need a new vehicly, they will have sorted their shit out.
One more thing: Volvo consistently sucks at any modern tech integration. Which is kind of the future of cars. Which is also discouraging.

It would seem the S60 is no mas. Still unclear on the V60 tho, but I don’t think that is assembled in the US.

What a bummer. The S60 was a great platform. I really liked the size. Guess they're going all in on SUVs. RIP Volvo. In other news, I heard the Polestar brand is on the brink of bankruptcy. Hell, the entire EV market is hurting right now, but Polestar in particular deserves it IMO due to their absolutely ass experience at their dealerships. Oh, I'm sorry... "Spaces." I've been following them from the beginning (including the leadership on LinkedIn) and their douchy executives thought they could basically copy Tesla in their business model, primarily a complete lack of giving a shit about the customer. I was actually really interested in buying a P*2, and wife and I drove to Austin to check out a dealer... err... "space," and gave up after like an hour of poking around the place, checking out the vehicles (all locked up of course) and TRYING to find a salesman. I gave them a bad review and the manager got back to me saying we'd have to set up an appt. Sorry, a-holes. You're not Tesla circa 2013. You can NOT operate like that and expect success. The arrogance from those execs was evident from the beginning and still persists. Zero willingness to adapt or change. Nope. Just go bankrupt and will get instantly hired somewhere else to wreck another company.

I liked Polestar when they were Volvo’s performance arm. I would consider a P2, far more than an XC40 Recharge or EC40 or whatever.

It’s a real bummer, if I had to go buy a car now it’d likely be an S60 T8 plug-in hybrid. Very frustrated with this move.

    Volvo

    Bump.

Wife is pushing for a used XCNinety of some kind. I’ve been wanting a GX, but the economy and comfort is meh. Volvo seems to come with more potential money pits, but otherwise: tell me why we shouldn’t spend $Thirty k on one that’s a few years old

My household has both. Whatever you think the lack of economy will cost you with a GX, it will be pennies on the dollar compared to the repairs and depreciation on the Volvo. That said, they sure are pretty and drive nice. I dig my xc70 but its waay more expensive than my GX.

This is my thought; the car would see probably six to eight thousand miles a year. The gas math doesn’t end up too much there. I love the Volvo idea, but much like a used LR - the repair potential scares me. On top of living hours from an actual dealer if something were to come to that. We have a Toyota dealer less than an hour away.

I do swoon over the XCSeventys when I walk by. Love those!

You will need that dealer. I'm a pretty hands on guy when it comes to cars and any Volvo after 2015 requires diagnostics you can't DIY in most cases (setting aside basics like brakes or the like).

    Volvo

Also, if any repairs require new software updates, it will be a nightmare for someone that doesn’t deal w Volvos regularly

Thank you boys, this is the kind of ammo that I need to put this idea to bed. I love the idea of driving Volvo as much as anyone, but I don’t see it as financially viable

My experience at Simply Euro with my Q5 TDI, has been much better than my experience, at Big Horn Toyota with my 4R.
I won't be going back to the Audi dealership, unless absolutely necessary.
I don't have any idea about Volvo's, but I bet Simply can work on them.

My neighbor had a XC90 and after 2 years just hated it when it left him stranded on the side of the road while driving to Mammoth.
That's said, I have driven some version of a V70 for 30 years and they all need work done to them, but I never felt it was excessive except for the shitty rotors on our old 740.
My 2006 V70R has been going strong for almost 20 years with only normal maintenance as stuff wears out and now has over 230,000 mi on it.
You definitely want a good indie mechanic as the dealership will try and bankrupt you.

Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

For sure; I actually need to schedule a service for our Alltrack with them. Glenwood VW/Audi went wayyy downhill when they got bought out a few years ago. The guys at Simply Euro are phenomenal so far

    Volvo

We bought a two thousand sixteen Teight XCninety three years ago and it’s been a pretty good car other than having a sensor go bad that would erroneously report the car was overheating. We chased that sucker for months and it did leave me stranded once. Would buy another Volvo. Safety is tough to beat and there’s significant peace of mind knowing my wife and kids are driving around in the safest SUV. Low frequency high consequence decision if we are ever in a major wreck.
