I really like the V90CC if I had to have a wagon. If an SUV, I love my Cayenne S.

And as opposed to the the wagons, you can actually pick up XC60s for pretty good prices!

I like our xc60 more than the xc70 (and the xc90) we had. And generally good price points on used ones out there too

Went to a Volvo dealer for the first time in my life to check out the V60 Polestar. Salesman couldn't show me the one they had, cuz it just came off the truck or something, but I sat in a XC60, and it's OK. Not as nice an interior as my 340, and the seats are about the same. Driver's seat doesn't adjust as much as my 340, so it's just barely big enough for my 36" inseam.
Met the manager and he was all: "it's a hard car to get, etc." I said "well I was going to do the Euro delivery so it won't come out of your allotment". He said they're hard to get, I can't get any, etc.
I'll try another dealer, but the BMW dealers are/were more than happy to do a Euro delivery. Anyway, I'm in no hurry, but 1st impressions weren't great.

Something like 3-6 months out at the time, but that's not that bad IMO to get exactly what you want.

Shop elsewhere for sure. I will say though, Volvo dealers kind of suck on the whole as compared to some of the competition. The product's great no doubt, but their dealers are holding them back from having as good of an overall experience as I've enjoyed with Cadillac and Mercedes in the past. As a generalization, of course. I believe that's Genesis' problem too. Go in for a legit luxury car (and they ARE quite nice), but get the Kia/Hyundai dealer treatment? Lol, nope.

The worst experience I’ve ever had was at a mini dealer. He wouldn’t even let me test drive a Clubman, definitely not the JCW I wanted to buy. I’ve done three euro deliveries with my BMWs and my buddy did one for his Volvo and I mean I know about car shortages etc. and wait times, but yeah butt munch. There are three Volvo dealers near Seattle and this one was in Lynnwood and I was going near there and they did have the polestar, that’s why I went there. Next.

My local Volvo dealership is not great. But the closest alternatives are 2hrs away. So if I want good dealer support after the sale, I’m inclined to buy it locally.
That said, the BMW X3 30i we just drove is very nice. And despite lower horsepower it seems to pull better than the goofy “mild hybrid” B models in the Volvo line. That, along with the much better reports I get from the local BMW has me leaning toward a brand switch.
Off to drive an XC60 Recharge, which I already know is going to feel like a rocket ship, but costs $15k more than the 1 year old BMW we just drove.
Oh how I wish the decision was mine to make from a position of logic. For sure, getting an older car with miles would fit the budget better. But I’m working working the constrains of what fits my marriage, and wife does make a lot more $$ than me.

My sister just got back from Sweden/Germany after taking delivery of her V90 wagon in Gothenburg. It was easy but she ordered the car back in January....

I picked up a 740 GL wagon in Gothenburg in 1989 but I was living in Germany at the time. It was a great experience. Only downside was having to keep it under 130kph (81mph) from Kiel all the way down to southern Bavaria. Break in period....

ETA: I had a Volvo in my driveway from May 1989 until November of 2019. That was only 3 cars; if you do the maintenance, they go forever.

So I basically I was an all wheel drive/manual transmission person, (there are a couple cheaper cars like that), but the golf R is the only one I’m considering. So if not that, it’s a wagon, and 40 miles of electric is pretty cool, otherwise I’d be looking at the Allroad as well.

I’m in an 02 xc70 now for about 1.5 years and 25k miles, love this thing. Total freight train. Giving my son the keys this fall to take to school so I gotta figure out the next step. If I could find a clean xc90 v8 I’d be happy. I’ll probably go back to Audi though , have a 00 allroad 6spd waiting in wings . I do miss a manual.

I've got an '07 XC70 which has been the most reliable car I've owned. Closing in on 170K miles. Hoping it holds out until I can replace with an electric AWD car that isn't a compromise. Interior it's getting a bit ratty (I blame my kids) but mechanically it is remarkably solid

I sure do miss my 6MT, nothing better than shifting up while going uphill. They've aged quite well IMO.

That said, the BMW X3 30i we just drove is very nice.

I've had mine for almost a year and am pretty stoked on it, way more tech than my old X3, though that was a manual.

Volvos are nice when they’re brand new. Mercedes are always nice and reliable. Surprisingly Volvos hate cold temps. I’d never touch a Volvo again

My 16 year old kid has decided that an XC70 will be their first car when they’re ready. Wants something that they can road trip and sleep in the back (love this kid!). Wife drove (and crashed!) a Volvo wagon as a teen so she is on board. Any years/motors better than others or are they all pretty solid?

We had a couple of XC70's, they would be a fantastic first car for a kid. I don't know if there's a better or worse year for that model's powerplant.

They're built like tanks which everyone knows, but the key is maintenance. Volvos last forever when they're well maintained. If they don't have good service records, walk.

According to my Indy Volvo guy, they stopped making the xc70 right when they started fucking around with the engines. He likes the basic v6/v8 they used before the i4 with extra super duper turbo charging. He loves to point out that the i4 engines have a timing belt instead of a chain which will go until the end of time.

I've had mine for almost a year and am pretty stoked on it, way more tech than my old X3, though that was a manual.

Curious; did you buy new or CPO or other? We’re probably gonna make the Bimer jump.

Not anymore, BMW European delivery was stopped for US customers 3 years ago. Between the X series that are made in the US and the new plant in Mexico, the cars are assembled in North America so nothing to go to Europe to pick up.

Nice!!! That is an OUTSTANDING choice to put a teenage driver in. Could very well see him through his next phase of life as well. Heck. Maybe even family lyfe down the road too! I would've been stoked to get a wagon back in HS. Especially one like that. You have a great color combo btw. Pretty rare these days I think and suits the car well.

Curious; did you buy new or CPO or other? We’re probably gonna make the Bimer jump.

CPO with just under 15K, factory hitch, MSport/Shadowline package, fully loaded except for the the bigger engine and Brembos.

my 2011 XC60 still ticking along, good snow car tooo.
Also easy to fix things like bulbs, the headlights snap right out. When I backed into something and smashed my brakelight I just ordered another and it snapped in fairly easily.

We ended up buying a BMW X3.
1) I don’t like the local Volvo dealer
2) I didn’t like the B series motors or the 4 banger T series motor. Even disappointed in the 4 banger T6.
3) Liked the T8 Recharge, but it’s a bit out of our budget, and the dealership doesn’t order Core trim level cars, or dark leather interior. So we’d be ordering one, and estimates are 4-6 months for special orders.
If we don’t love the BMW a year from now we’ll see if the Recharge market is better and flip.
Still keeping the old T6 as our workhorse for bikes, dogs, travel. Hoping it goes forever.

I have never liked the sales side of dealerships. Of the few cars purchased new in my life, it has always been other than coming in to test drive and then haggle price. Rather I shop the country for the car and price I want (usually in April/May) and then I contact a local dealer (up to 500 miles away) and ask them if they want to match that price. After much sputtering they will. Wire in the deposit, show up and sign all the paperwork in 1 hour. Hand over cashiers check and bounce. Last salesman told me mine was the easiest/fastest sale he had ever done.
