I substituted a lot of skinning for long runs this winter, and it worked pretty well. I beat last years marathon time by ten minutes. And the crowds were a lot better than at Stowe...

Laps, I ran the VCM this year. I had planned on training, but skied a little too much. In the spring some nagging injuries got my mind out of it. Finally a few weeks before the race I did a couple long runs and felt I would be able to finish, so I went ahead and entered. FKNA it was fun! Well, in that painful kind of way, at least. I finished with a net of 3:47:11, just ahead of my 9 min/mile expected pace.
I raced the Shelburne sprint tri in mid July last year. It was my first, and my 3rd time on a road bike. I had a blast. I'm going to be helping at Bolton Valley for the lift service biking during the first tri (July 2nd) but several friends plan on racing. I'll race the 2nd one (july 18th i think).
I used L.Garneau tri shorts, retail about $50. They worked well and seemed to dry quickly. The swim is relatively calm, but that all depends on the weather. If you have any questions on it let me know.
Vin, congrats on the outdoor tri. It would be cool to see you at one of the Shelburne races...or riding at Bolton. Either way, hope to see you around.
I might be doing one the Shelburne race later this summer and might make Bolton a couple times.
Congrats on the marathon, well donr indeed, especially for not training that is a pretty good time.

there is an Xterra Offroad sprint tri in Ogden, forget the dates, fun though. Open water swim, mtn bike up to Snowbasin, run. Last year was the first year and it was the largest filed of entrants for a first time Xterra race. The swimming killed me. Due to ignorance, I used my shorty wetsuit which did nothing but retain water and make me use more energy. Ive never been so worked from a swim before.
I cant make this race this year, but it is a fun-ass race with about a mile of pavement total.
i worked at Lake dunmore for a summer, sleeping in a cabin 30 feet from its shores. I swam in that lake just about every day for almost 3 months. When its calm, its like a pool and glassy. Wind causes havoc there, especially if it is blowing all the way across the lake to where you are. Swimming in chop stinks. Way to stick it out and finish strong.
More fucked up than a cricket in a hubcap
Congratulations! I haven't heard about the Bolton tris, we should organize a Northern VT mag ride sometime in the future. Bolton Access road, maybe? I am free all next week.Originally Posted by SkiJunky05
