I want to come back to this and acknowledge that I have more time on the BG (> 100 days, I think) than either of the other skis (10 days each or so), but I do have a different opinion here.

Until the snow is > 1 foot deep, the 191 BG is just as good in untracked as the 196 Protest. I didn't think the protest really separated itself significantly until it was waist/balls deep pow.

The Q really is good in untracked when there is room to run. In tight spaces, I found both the protest and BG easier to manage.

Agree with the comments on the Q skiing it's full length. If you're between sizes on the Q, size down.

Yup I'm with you. When I have skied Protest its been a minimum of 8" each time.
I'll take the BG out starting at a trace of fresh. The two compliment each other not compete.
My statement in pow ranking the 3- more related to a comparison in untracked at 10-12" although didn't specify.
By no means am I going on record that the BG ranks low in untracked pow. It rules!
My protest and Q builds were lighter, helped float. BGs are more down and in the pow to a degree.
Helps build a stable and confident on snow connection.

Mine is a 98 Enforcer, which is the titanium version of your ski. I’m in the same boat ... when the Enforcers die I’ll probably get a stock 9D8 as well.

I would love something similar for when these are toast, but with a little looser tail for trees and bumps, thinking the 9D8 may fit this role. Any opinions on this ski for groomers bumps and shallow tree pow?
1st gen 9D8 (not sure if it has been changed?) is my daily driver here in NH and I've been very happy with it. There is a speed limit on really firm groomers, but they do very well in bumps and trees and carve turns just fine when it isn't bulletproof.

Thanks for the confirmation of my choice.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the original was MAP core and now it's just maple and ash.

About to pull the trigger on some UL, Flex 3, 182 Yetis with a veneer top I haven't settled on yet. To be the new spring touring rig. Anyone have a referral code they'd like pass my way? Fully blame the stoke in this thread for the decision!

Protest - if I'm to grab a protest this season which would be 80/20 resort vs. BC/Side....would you guys stick with 187 vs the 192?

Reason I ask is the crud busting ability of the 192 all here mention. I've never owned a ski over 188 which is why I'm a bit torn here. Touring isn't my main focus but with bindings like the SHIFT it has me thinking that the possibility is there for this build and me.

My I run my Concept inserted with KingPins and Wardens currently as I mentally ping pong this protest purchase.

    I'm 5'10/ 170lbs and really good looking.

I split my time between VT and SLC.....this season had me 22 days in UT (5 day in Jackson) and 18 (or so) in VT. I'm not sure the Protest needs VT time.

I"m bigger than you and ski the 188. I bet you could go either one, depending on your chargeitude.

You really could go either way. I've never heard people say they felt their 187s had a speed limit really. I'm 5'9 185, really enjoyed my 192s in CO for pure resort use. Very quick even in tight trees, though the length requires me to be on my game a little. I have a handful of other skis in the 115mm range (all 186cm~) so I wanted a ski that had some extra float for truly deep days, so I went 192.

Jmars, I’d say stay 187. I’ve had both 177 and a 187. The mythical 182 would be perfection for me but I found that the protest is the one ski that I’ve tried that I could still charge on it being a bit shorter than perfection and at the same time the longer ski was still ez to get around in tight spaces. I wouldn’t want to climb thru many switchbacks on the 187 , for me, though. I’m 5”7’. I mounted both at -1.5. Zero tip dive there and smear at will

Put a RX 189 heavy carbon veneer in the cart. Gonna sleep on it to make sure this is the one..
Wanted traditional ripper that works most everyday at resort in PNW.

Any mags have some experience on this particular layup or heavy RX?
    Should I drop carbon?
What weight you guess- 2250g per?

Almost same set up I'm waffling on. If veneers were free again it would be a no brainer, but the extra $125 has me sitting on the fence. Plus I already have a 196...

Re weight, if it's about 2130g per ski with Enduro, I'd say the veneer and carbon will offset going heavy, and keep it around 2125-2150g per ski. Keith could be more precise. My carbon and veneer 184s (enduro) are 8.6 lb for the pair (vs. 8.9 lb for nylon and no carbon).

    Betelgeuse has the heavy Rx.

Opinions vary re carbon, and lots seem to prefer no carbon for resort use. I personally go carbon for the small weight savings and use the Rx both in and out of bounds. Whether I could tell the carbon difference in a blind test I can't say. I am skeptical about my own ability to detect such subtle differences.

Sleeping on a 183 mvp enduro Carbon veneer 3+. Touring setup. Torn between lion and praxis tattoo. Guessing 8 lbs flat for the pair.

I had my 182 Heavy carbon Veneer Qs at ~2250g a piece. My scale could have been off by a couple oz, maybe 2200g

The RX might have a thinner profile overall but I 'd imagine they'd be heavier
